Men are making high heels their own

A tall order for even the most fashionable of gentlemen: High heels for men are on the rise

It's the last bastion of women's outerwear that hasn't been appropriated by the more fashionable men out there - until now.

High heels are, apparently, de rigueur for men.

To the possible chagrin of some more traditional males, those with a fashionable eye and an eccentric sensibility are taking the women's power dressing weapon of choice and making it their own.

-----------------

'It’s a power thing. You’re higher than everybody else. You make more sound. You walk a different way. It makes your legs look better,' said Mr Alexander.

Which is what women - and a certain type of man including Louis XIV and Mr Haygood - have known for centuries.

Particularly in the gay African American community. Those men who wears heals don't do drag. They wear heals and carry fashionable bags. :)

Wearing stiletto type heels lead to foot problems as well as sprained ankles.

Males who would make a habit of wearing such shoes are as airheaded as women who do it but look stupider. :7

142. My husband would never ever...
every year our friends (a group of competitive cyclists) do a "Cross-dress Cyclocross" Race for Halloween. All the boys dig through their wives closets (my husband cannot do this, as he's 6'2" and I'm 5'1") and don their best frilly clothes. But there's only one or two who will pull out the heels. My husband wears striped tights and skirts, but with high-top converse.

He'll never wear heels. Ever.

12. Besides looking silly, it'll never catch on.
Reason is...the men will soon discover that wearing heels THAT high causes permanent foot problems, and some foot problems that can be corrected by surgery, as well as causing back problems (they throw the spine out of alignment), and they'll fall down more often (heels of course interfere with balance). They'll also find out how uncomfortable they are.

Women wear heels (aka "hells") SOMETIMES, because they are in fashion. Women don't dictate fashion. Same reason businessment wear suits and ties. No one has a good reason why. It's just the way it is.

But more and more women are wearing lower and lower heels, and some have given up heels except for special occasions. I rarely wear heels anymore. when I do, they're 3 inch or lower pumps, and I wear them for only one day in a blue moon.

42. I had to give them up after a resprained ankle which caused a fall that cracked
a bone in my foot and damaged my knee on the other leg made it impossible for me to wear high heels without using a cane.

I now wear high heels (with attendant cane) about once every year or two for very formal events.

125. We already put up with women kvetching about wearing uncomfortable shoes
for the sake of fashion, so, look out, ladies, you know men will make it out to be the end of the world if this ever catches on.

83. They are just as stupid as women who wear painful heels.
I quit wearing heels decades ago.
Women who wear heels are stupid because they risk falls, sprained ankles, bunions, spinal trouble and who knows what else. Many kinds of damage to their bodies.

Wearing heels HURTS. I am short, so according to Vogue I should wear heels. Too bad. I'm comfy.
If you're a short woman, then you are supposed to wear heels to get noticed and live in pain. It's all about being tall and dominating other people. Short people are intimidated and discriminated against. So are people who wear glasses. I could rant but I won't.

85. Well, when they have to have both knees replaced
they will find out high heels aren't so cool.

Women who wear high heels on a daily basis tend to develop osteoarthritis (cartilage inflammation) of the knee later in life, according to a study done at the Spaulding Rehabilitative Hospital in Boston. Osteoarthritis makes walking painful and, in some cases, even unbearable. The longer the women were wearing the high heels, the worse the damage.

My mom had to have both knees replaced. It majorly sucked.

Hell, I seldom wear shoes much less high heels. When I do go out and have to put on footwear it's usually boots or sneakers.

Edited on Tue Oct-18-11 05:48 PM by mainer
I've never been able to wear high heels. In order for them to stay on my foot, they had to be too tight at the heel, AND in the toe. Then I bought a pair of Mary Janes with squarish toes and a strap to hold the shoe in place, and for the first time in FIVE DECADES I can wear a 3-inch heel. Sheesh, to discover this so late in life.

Maybe now Hollywood won't have to have short actors stand on boxes next to tall actresses. Like Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow in Iron Man.

Let them share the backaches and the ankle strains, and the toe problems. Just to be *taller*? Oye.
