Number of China's licensed lawyers reaches 200,000
QINGDAO, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- The number of China's licensed lawyers has reached 200,000, a massive increase from several hundred in 1979 when the legal profession was re-established, according to the latest figures disclosed at the ongoing 9th China Lawyer Forum being held here.

The figures also indicated that China currently has more than 250,000 people practicing law and more than 17,000 registered law firms.

During the 11th Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010), the number of litigation, non-litigation and legal aid cases handled by lawyers in China reached around 10 million, 5 million and 1 million, respectively, according to the forum.
