Ron Paul: Cain’s 9-9-9 tax plan too regressive
By Eric W. Dolan
Tuesday, October 18, 2011

“What 9-9-9 does is compromises in the worst way,” Paul said before the CNN Western Republican debate. “He gives you a sales tax and a flat tax. And opens up the door to a value added tax.”

“I think it’s very, very dangerous and the way I see it, I don’t think it is going to tax those who have bigger incomes. It’s a regressive tax. People are going to get a 9 percent sales tax and they don’t even have jobs right now? So I think because it is so regressive, if we ever came close to it, it would be very, very unpopular.

“I think the more people know about it, the more questions will be asked.”

According to an analysis by the Tax Policy Center, the 9-9-9 tax plan would give every American making more than $1 million an average tax cut of $455,000. Americans with incomes below $200,000, in contrast, would see their taxes increase under the plan.

1. One can only stand in awe:
How regressive does something have to be for Ron Paul to say "goddamn, that's just too much"

11. Did Ron Paul say that lol?
Well someone had to say it. Too bad Ron Paul has about 3 good ideas and 40 bad ones.

And he was born and raised here in the Pittsburgh area. You would think he has a clue about working class people.

Like I tell my friends who like him...he can't pass anything through the bought congress anyhow.

Why pursue it? And if he wants to end the fed res....well stay away from small planes.

4. Please let him be the nominee. Please......

This alone alienates 90% of the country against him. Repugs will just stay home....

5. Don't bet on that
Many of them will gladly take that tax increase right up the ass to teach the "libs" a lesson (and no doubt they'll blame "the left" when that tax increase takes effect)

8. Cain clearly just latched onto a catch-phrase. He is completely ignorant otherwise.
