Troops in Afghanistan Burn Donated Copies of Bill O’Reilly’s Books

What did the soldiers in Afghanistan do with those copies of Pinheads and Patriots your dad sent in a care package? They set them on fire.

You're stuck in some god-awful outpost in the middle of nowhere. Internet access is spotty, and you and your buddies have all thoroughly pawed over the one copy of Maxim still holding together. You've even read that copy of Pride and Prejudice twice, just to keep the boredom at bay. Imagine your excitement when you receive a box of books from a random stateside do-gooder. You open it eagerly and... Pinheads and Patriots?

Some jerk sent us two boxes of this awful book (SPOILER ALERT: George Washington — Patriot; George Soros — Pinhead) instead of anything soldiers at a remote outpost in Afghanistan might need, like, say, food or soap. Just burned the whole lot of them on my Commander's orders.

That's according to Everqueer, a Tumblr maintained by a soldier serving in Afghanistan. It's left unsaid who sent the care package, but it's worth noting that O'Reilly has previously promoted his books by promising to send a free copy to troops in Iraq with every $26 purchase. And he's a supporter of Operation Shoebox, a charity that arranged care packages for troops. This segment from O'Reilly's show depicts a copy of Pinheads and Patriots being packed into an Operation Shoebox shipment.

1. Burning books is bad. Wait, this is not really a book but just the ravings of a lunatic.

4. My question, which generates more hot air in an hour?
Bill O'Reilly or 2 boxes of his books?

5. Why doesn't someone send them O'Reilly himself?

Of course, there would be such an awful stench when he burned...

6. Too bad it's written on both sides. They could use it as note paper otherwise.
It's a waste of paper to print the stupid shit.

7. That way they are at least minimally useful as heat generators at night...

8. Send O'Liley the ashes
His dearly departed. Perhaps they could find an urn somewhere.

10. When I was stationed in Turkey while in the USAF,
Someone sent a big box of religious tracts to someone at that isolated base on the Black Sea coast. It never made it past the little post office's trash can. Packages were always a big deal there. I'm sure the guy who got the tracts opened it on the spot in excitement, just like we all did when we picked up our mail and there was a package. As soon as he saw its contents, he just turned and dropped the whole box in the trash can.

O'Reilly's book is in the same category...

11. I am against burning books under any circumstance.
However, I wouldn't mind seeing them strapped to the outsides of their vehicles as armor.

12. It's too bad because if the paper was softer it could have been put to good use as toilet paper. nt
