I just received an intelligence insulting robo-call from the NRA.
Understand first, I'm a lifetime gun owner...

It began with a spiel about how the UN is coming to take our guns away (along with everyone else in the world). I was told to hold the line for an important message from Wayne LaPierre as if they were introducing him at a luncheon event.

I waited on the line hoping to speak to a live person so I could ask when the UN was going to send the blue helmets door to door confiscating nearly 300 million guns from Americans who they implied will have no choice but to cooperate without resistance. I was going to point out the unachievable logistics of such an ambitious goal, ask how they think this will be carried out, and what they think the time frame will be (months, years, decades?). Of course the UN will have to work simultaneously in nearly every other country in the world requiring literally millions of UN soldiers in full battle rattle and armored equipment. It would be the biggest assembled army since the Roman Legion with the mission of disarming the entire globe of all weapons except suspiciously their own impressive arsenal.

I was disappointed that no option to speak with a live Representative was offered, even for fund raising. Instead, LaPierre unfurled a frightful scenario where the UN would come in, snatch our guns without exception, and mentioned they were working hand in hand with Obama. He ended the call with a poll: He asked me to push "1" if I wanted the UN to enter the country to confiscate our guns, and press "2" if I didn't want them to. Of course I pushed neither because it was the most absurd push poll I ever heard. I wanted to push "3" if I thought LaPierre is off his paranoia fueled rocker, but the call ended with only those two options.

This right wing fear of the government taking away guns has reached new lows. Can you imagine a knock on your door from a blue helmeted soldier asking you if you have any guns in the home? "Do you know if I do?" "No sir". "Then no I don't have any, have a nice day". How long will it take them to canvass East LA or NYC alone? How's it going to go in Texas? "Better have a big supply of body bags" as they said in Rambo.

1. They thrive on fear and paranoia,
And too many fall for it hook, line, and sinker.

4. I like your sig line.
I have a similar quote I like to use: "I never trust anyone who tells me how smart I am, or how dumb they are."

I hate to say who first coined that phrase back when they were entering "America3 (cubed)" in the America's Cup race though.

2. Now that could be a premise for a fiction book
For all the reasons you stated.

3. reminds me of a poll I got in college
Came from my right wing Congressman. One question was: Do you think you have the right to protect yourself and your family from a vicious criminal attack? Another asked if I thought hardened criminals and drug gangs would turn in their weapons if they were made illegal. Of course, this nonsense allowed him to issue a press release later saying that over 90 something % of his constituents were opposed to gun control. The other 10% or so gave all the ridiculous wrong answers just to fuck with him.

7. Now that you mention it...
I should have answered that I wanted the UN to eneter the country and take our guns, but I was stunned at the stupidity of the choices when the call ended. It would have skewed the poll a bit.

5. Never a gun owner or NRA member and I got the call earlier today too...
So they must not be targeting calls very well...

6. And ironically, "Barack Obama's been good to the NRA...
"Barack Obama's been good to the NRA, but if you want to take away Wayne LaPierre's preconceived narrative, you'll have to pry it from his cold dead hands."
