FIRST, they have shown us that persistence pays off. Given some time and patience, you will not be ignored. The 99% now know there's a way to break out of irrelevance, and we'll damned well use it to good purpose.

SECOND, they have shown everyone that, thanks to ubiquitous video cameras in phones and YouTube, the whole world is truly watching, all of the time. It is said that King Bloomberg had to call back his OWS-clearing goons because he understood that their thuggery would be beamed across the world in moments. (Sorry Gil Scott-Herron: the revolution *is* being televised, but who could have imagined that back in '70? Rest in peace, man - I hope you're enjoying the action down here.)

THIRD, they have made popular the imagery of the 99% vs. the 1%. America is now talking about those two different worlds *as* two different worlds, rather than describing America as some fantasy where we're all either rich, or on our way to being rich. When a few folks start life owning half the hotels on the Monopoly board, they'll always win and everyone else will lose.

So you people nattering "where's the beef"? The beef is right in front of you, wipe the dust from your eyes. They've done more than their part - any more will be icing on the cake.

Thank you, Magnificent Ones! After so many years of unrelenting losses to the Predator Class, you have given some of us hope for the future! Perhaps my son's generation now has a some hope of living in an America that is just and prosperous for all.

2. Also, when Romney went from dogging the occupiers to saying...

"I understand what they are angry about" (before he no doubt went back to dogging them), the 2012 election took a substantial shift leftward.

3. Even the White House is obliquely feeling their pain
With many qualifiers, including calling them "unhelpful". But it's a start.

I prayed someone would do something. Stay strong I realize the weight you have on your shoulders is quite a load. At my age I don't have the ability to do what your doing...but I appreciate what you are accomplishing.

9. Maybe that's enough for you
But merely "being noticed" is something Lindsey Lohan can accomplish just by breaking probation.

Even the tea partiers didn't accomplish much in their first year or so, it took an election to show the real power they learned to wield. I can only hope that OWS doesn't fizzle by the 2012 elections. If they can effectuate the primary victory of congresscritter candidates who can win in the fall, who are not beholden to corporate cash, then they've accomplished something, but that will take time.

10. Putting a man on the moon started with a 15-minute flight
Edited on Wed Oct-19-11 10:05 PM by MannyGoldstein
with a rocket small enough that it could be encircled by four people holding hands.

Each subsequent flight made it further and faster, and 8 years later people were bouncing around the moon's surface, while billions watched rapt on TV amd all humankind came together for a short while.

We ain't at the finish line, but the process of victory begins with one solid success. We've not had that success until now. There is hope.

12. Ok, if you want to compare some stories on the protests
with Alan Shepard's flight, then by all means, go ahead. I just don't see getting interviewed by a news-hungry reporter as being that significant, and that's pretty much all that's happened so far.

Your analogy is like saying that once Shepard was selected for the space program, a newspaper story about it was the first step to the moon. If the rocket had blown up on the launch pad, it really wouldn't have seemed like such a great accomplishment.

20. Take a course in reading comprehension
I was responding to someone who compared a few news stories about OWS with Alan Shepard's flight into space, and found the comparison to be lacking. Maybe you don't.

15. "OWS demands: Political Finance Reform via Const. Convention
"OWS demands: Lets bypass DC and get money out of the
political process via Constitutional Convention"

Please take a look at the Act our PAC is supporting in an
upcoming petition drive in Washington. It should look pretty
good to Democrats, it is the Disclose Act that passed the US
House last year.
http://www.hardtruthpac.org/#!disclose-act

We can use this energy to do something very important that
need to be done.

The Disclose Act supported by Hard Truth PAC

To amend the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to prohibit
foreign influence in federal elections, to prohibit government
contractors from making expenditures with respect to such
elections, and to establish additional disclosure requirements
with respect to spending in such elections.

Dylan Ratigan's Amdendment

"No person, corporation or business entity of any type,
domestic or foreign, shall be allowed to contribute money,
directly or indirectly, to any candidate for Federal office or
to contribute money on behalf of or opposed to any type of
campaign for Federal office. Notwithstanding any other
provision of law, campaign contributions to candidates for
Federal office shall not constitute speech of any kind as
guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution or any amendment to the U.
S. Constitution. Congress shall set forth a federal holiday
for the purposes of voting for candidates for Federal
office."

Lawrence Lessig's Amendment

"No non-citizen shall contribute money, directly or
indirectly, to any candidate for Federal office. United States
citizens shall be free to contribute no more than the
equivalent of $100 to any federal candidate during any
election cycle. Notwithstanding the limits construed to be
part of the First Amendment, Congress shall have the power to
limit, but not ban, independent political expenditures, so
long as such limits are content and viewpoint neutral.
Congress shall set forth a federal holiday for the purposes of
voting for candidates for Federal office."

As we come to the conclusion that calling for a National
Constitutional Convention is the only route for the voters to
take, you may ask "Which amendment should the voters
support?"

Dylan Ratigan's Amendment does not allow a person to
contribute to a campaign. Hard Truth PAC believes that the
People must be allowed to voice their support for candidates
of their choosing. Bernie Sanders could not support this Act
as it is when asked directly on Dylan's show, but he said that
he would support something like it.

Lawrence Lessig is correct about the impact of the ideas in
his amendment. However, Hard Truth PAC believes that the idea
of publicly funded elections will not be as popular in as many
states as Dr. Lessig assumes. We need the support of the
states to effectively call a convention.

The Disclose Act advocated by Hard Truth PAC has already
passed in the U.S. House, and it nearly passed in the Senate.
The votes cast are public record, and Sen. Snowe (R) voted in
support of the Amendment. It prevents direct corporate and
foreign influence in our elections. It also allows our courts
and legislature flexibility to close loopholes, and does not
allow them to create more.

Hard Truth PAC believes the Disclose Act is the best solution
to the crisis of representation our country faces today.
Pease share this with others.

16. And let's make sure the REAL organizers like Bill Schmalz and Micah White get some credit, too!
While also keeping the MSM-promoted posers like Kalle Lasn out of the spotlight, and giving wanna-be infiltrators like Rocky Suhayda a swift kick in the proverbial ass.

Seriously, thanks to all you guys out there. What a few of you on the street(with some help from White & Schmalz, too!) started in mid May-early June helped blossom into a worldwide movement that is bound to be one of the sparks for something even bigger. =)
