CNN just showed photo purported to be Gaddafi (dead) and
Richard Engel is commenting on it.

AJE: Libya Interim Leader to Address The Nation Shortly.

State Dept still "cannot confirm".

12. Yeah, I switched back to MSNBC and he was referring to it --
they showed it as well a few minutes later.

13. That's important to remember. We've had virtually no involvement
since the beginning of this when the Arab League asked for our assistance.

5. How much has Obama spent so far on Afghanistan/Iraq?
Pretty disingenuous of you to put all the war costs on Bush. Obama owns them from 09 on.

6. Cool trick
All you have to do to make military aggression and ethnic cleansing fashionable in America is have a Democrat Prez launch said atrocities. Then all the "troops" will cheer! Awesome!

9. Just heard Obama's approval rate for national security is 61%!
Thugs have lost their edge in that department at least. :D

10. I wonder what Libya had to do with U.S. national security ... do people
believe Libya was a threat?

11. This poll has nothing to do with Libya.
More about binLaden and other terrorist casualities I imagine. I don't approve of our continuing involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq, but Obama does have the national security edge over Repubs.

15. I think that's a lesson the Dems have finally learned
There's no reason Republicans should get to own national security, especially after 9/11, which promoted something of a consensus on a more aggressive FP.

Problem is, the further we get from 9/11, the less salient security issues will be in national elections. 2012 isn't going to be a national security election. It's going to be an economy election and Obama's numbers there aren't as hot. 61 percent on security is a nice bump, but it can't get him across the finish line. He's going to need something on the economy if he wants a second term.

Right now I think he has a slight edge against any Republican. Better economic news and he probably walks into a second term with little sweat. But a stagnant situation and he still has a fight on his hands. And worse economic news could mean real trouble for him.

14. I think the tigers met their end in a more humane way than
we could have hoped for from Gadaffi.

Gaddafi Killed; Mauled by Tiger in Ohio
Cat to Receive Presidential Medal of Freedom

ZANESVILLE (The Borowitz Report) – A grim chapter in the history of Libya came to a close today when fugitive dictator Muammar Gaddafi was mauled to death by an escaped tiger in Zanesville, Ohio.

At the Central Intelligence Agency, a spokesman stopped short of speculating how the Libyan strongman somehow made his way to the remote Ohio town, saying only, “We didn’t plan on Gaddafi being taken out this way, but a win’s a win.”

The tiger, a longtime Zanesville resident, is being flown to the White House where she will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

In a brief statement, President Barack Obama said, “Under my watch, we’ve killed both Osama bin Laden and Muammar Gaddafi. That really should be enough to reelect me, especially if I’m running against a pizza man.”

Meanwhile, on the campaign trail, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn) offered this comment on Gaddafi’s death: “Muammar Gaddafi will no longer live to terrorize Asia.
