Robocall: "Diabetic Supply Company"
Edited on Thu Oct-20-11 11:32 AM by Aerows
This company has repeatedly called me. I'm not a diabetic, nor is anyone in my family. They called because my parents get Medicare. Yes, they are old, and when I answered, they asked if I needed a "back brace". When I firmly asked what they were calling for, we both affirmed that I didn't need "A back brace" since my spine was just fine.

These people are ripping off Medicare, IMHO. That's not the opinion of DU since I'm a Mod here, just my personal opinion. This company was attempting to rip off taxpayers via Medicare, and I said so, then the woman hung up.

Trolling for Diabetics? Good LORD. My grandmother was a diabetic for 46 years.

Before she hung up I told her she should be ashamed of herself, as should anyone attempting to rip off our elderly.

1. The person you talked to was likely a minimum wage slave in a sleazy job.
Ghastly line of employment, that cold calling. I can't imagine having to do it.

She probably hung up because she's on a quota of "suckers" per day, and won't get a decent wage if she doesn't con people into signing up for the service, which is probably overpriced home delivery of testing equipment, strips, needles, that kind of thing--sorta like what Wilford Brimley hawks on the tee vee.

4. It's horrible that people are in that line of employment
That's a systemic problem. It needs to change.

5. Desperation causes people to do horrible things--it's a form of prostitution,
really. I'll bet you'd have a hard time finding anyone who likes that line of work.

As long as you have people who need a paycheck, and bums who like to rip people off, you'll probably continue to see this kind of thing. It is a shame.

6. I'm not arguing with you
Edited on Thu Oct-20-11 12:11 PM by Aerows
I'm lamenting it with you. It doesn't mean that I have to stand by and watch people do awful things without calling them on bad behavior.

I guess that makes me a bad person. I wouldn't watch a person get robbed in the street and say nothing. You really want people like that in your community?

2. Too many babies. Not enough honest ways to make a living.
Its only going to get worse as the population continues to soar as opportunity dwindles.

3. LOL WUT?
Okay. We'll just ignore bad things happening since it's all a circumstance of too many mouths to feed and not enough resources.

8. I'm not making excuses for the telespam scammers.
Edited on Thu Oct-20-11 12:12 PM by Shagbark Hickory
I'm saying we can expect to see more of it as desperation grows.

What can be done about it? Nobody wants to talk about that.

10. Everyone wants to talk about it, my friend
We are getting squeezed, and we as a population feel it, and know it. People are in the streets. They aren't in the streets risking arrest and bodily harm because they are content.

7. Yeah, I am 72 and have no extreme health problems
except for high blood pressure. But I repeatedly receive junk mail with offers for the Scooter Chair and hearing aids. A few weeks ago, I got a call from someone wanting to know if anyone in my household had diabetes. I said no (even though it does run in my family and I don't have it yet), and the caller hung up. Why is it assumed just because you are over 65 that you need help moving around, are half deaf and have diabetes?

9. They are trying to make a sale
and rob you of your rightful Medicare so they can get it from somebody else that doesn't need a "Back brace" under the diabetics clause.

They tried to sell me a back brace, when, if I was a diabetic, I would neither need one, nor need Medicare to pay for one. It's straight up theft.

12. My point, exactly
They are working for a garbage wage, for a garbage ideology, for garbage people. That we as a people have sunk to the point where we think it's okay to work for a horrible end - we need to change things.

14. Its almost as bad as those scooter store commercials.....
in reality I see them all over big flea markets....its not because the owner really needs one (and you can tell those) its because some people are to lazy to walk. I wonder where all those they rent came from?
