Louisiana bans using cash in sales of second-hand goods
In a new law that could put every trading post, Goodwill, flea market, garage sale and Craigslist merchant in the state of Louisiana out of business, a bipartisan group of elected representatives has opted to ban all cash payments for the buying and selling of used goods.

Though House Bill 195 was intended to make it easier to track the sales of stolen goods by giving police a paper trail to follow, the unintended consequences could be much more widespread. Namely, the law requires second-hand sales be made paid for with credit cards, paper checks, electronic transfer or money orders. Cash is prohibited.

2. I routinely pay cash for things that are not necessarily
something I want any documentation that I own.

And the security-police state continues to grow.

Scary

3. More fees to the banks for using their credit card services.

Also, this is another means to destroy small business by the GOP.

This is clearly unconstitutional.

12. Discussed on DU yesterday.
Outlawing of use of our nation's legal tender. Illegal and unconstitutional in so many ways.

13. What a bunch of f**kwits

How are they going to enforce this law? It's absolutely ridiculous on its face!

And what are the penalties for non-compliance? Is it now a felony in LA to use a quarter out of your wallet to buy your kid a little toy at a garage sale? Is this another political maneuver designed to fill those for-profit prisons? JAysuzz chirist pretty soon it will be illegal to fart.

I am continually amazed at how vapid and evil our politicians truly are

Fuck you, LA Legistlators. Just a big fat fuck you

16. ATT once attempted to charge me $5.00 for
"human contact" when I attempted to pay cash for my phone bill instead of using their kiosk. After lecturing them on cash being legal tender in the US, the manager (just to shut me up) agreed to handle the transaction without the $5.00 fee.

The fact that a state is attempting this fuckedry is no surprise. I hope they are slapped with a suit immediately.

18. Personally, I pay cash for quite a few of
my purchases, and it has nothing to do with avoiding being tracked in any way.
