12. Tsunami alert - Whats is like from the other side of the fence
Hi all
Came across your little gem of a forum tread while wondering whether or not I might need wading boots today.
I live in Christchurch NZ. You may or may not have heard of it.
Since our Sept 2010 and Feb 2011 quakes we have experienced almost 8000 aftershocks, the last 37 mins ago. (not counting Raul Island which was also felt this far south and that's over 2000 km's away)
May be a bit of a joke so far away, but trust me, if it had generated a Tsunami, it would have also hit the good old USA, Hawaii being the first to need wading boots (affecting both democrats and republicans alike I think lol)
We certainly would have been affected and only had a couple of hours to flock to A) the beach (the dumb ones) or B) the hills (the not so dumb ones)
Joking aside it's no joke living somewhere where the most popular web site is http://www.geonet.org.nz/ closely followed by http://www.canterburyquakelive.co.nz/
We view these to check the online Seismic Quake drums as you might the weather. This way we can try to get a feel for what the day might have in store or at least some reassurance that nothing bad is about to happen.
The reality is you still freeze for a moment like a possum in the headlights as each quake hits. It a split second or 2 you assess how one this one will be. Then you make life and death decisions, ignore it it's only a baby, stay put as your safer where you are, dive under a desk and hope the roof doesn't fall or run for your life if the worlds coming to an end.
Enjoy your day.
PS my partner still clutches a touch each night when see goes to sleep.
Cheers StevieC

13. As a native Southern Californian...
I get what you're saying. I have decorative hanging items at home at at the office so I can see the sway... websites are too slow when you are 'surfing' on the 39th floor of a skyscraper... I need to know if it's really rolling or if I'm imagining things, again. When we go through a flurry of quakes, I often feel things that aren't there.

Stay safe!
