Your Jesus

He cries in his room
alone in his sin.
Crucified by confession,
facade wearing thin.
Born as himself,
burned at the stake;
Fleeting moment; no conscience; consumed by
their hate.

Your Jesus peers through his soul,
searching it well.
Seeing nothing but evil,
He drags it down to hell.

Hypocrites and liars,
cause scarring and pain.
Do it for Jesus;
His children are gay.

Pass on his judgment;
We know it's what your Jesus would say.
Your views are His.
There is no doubting His way.

His majesty's towers and mansions,
and massive estates;
Buy your way into Heaven,
Justify what His children create.

Saved by his mercy;
Drowned by his hate.
In the end, what difference does it make?

Satan's vengeance, And the original sin,
The coming attraction;
Emptiness within.
Materialistic, shallow at best;
Walk with Jesus,
Your one of the blessed.

Final moments and whispered words;
Rise of the righteous and those who serve.
Your Jesus himself descending from Heaven,
Killing and burning, grabbing and taking,
Raping and pillaging, ravaging and shaking.

You look for an answer,
a meaning that's clearer.
Your Jesus isn't salvation,
He is only the mirror.

Blatant lies and an offensive attack against some of the few(I know militant atheism is popular here) religious DU'ers I've met - and of course against the Saviour himself.

10. I understand your son's anger
as I faced the same things growing up.

But remember - the fundies don't represent us true Christians anymore then the fundies in Islam represent them.

It's just that the fundies are given so much air-play while regular God-following Christians are shunted to the back seats.

I apologize if I sounded harsh. I just have to endure regular attacks on my beliefs on a regular basis.

12. The Pope's a mixed bag for me.
On one hand, he's pushed for poverty reduction and a greater understanding and compassion for the poor, and has always come out against war.

On the other, his opposition to contraception and gay people angers me somewhat.

Edited on Sat Oct-22-11 09:59 AM by seabeyond
taken as a "somewhat". i have talked with spiritual leaders within fundamentalist environment and have told them what a great responsibility they have, talking to people that are dependent on them with their personal spirituality. it is an awesome responsibility. and when they fail their people by teaching hate with an agenda, they pull them away from the very thing the person is looking for. a person listening to a minister is leaving themselves open in trust. and what a harmfully deceiving abuse to steer them in a wrong direction.

that is what the pope does in teaching hate. hate of gays. hate of women.

He does some things(compassion for the poor) that I support, and other things(what you mentioned) I oppose.

13. please don't apologize. i think this is an important conversation. i feel men have a responsibility
to speak out with their fellow brothers, sons, fathers and peers. i think a christian has a responsibility and obligation to speak out to their fellow christians who hurt and hate and represent christ in such a horribly wrong and hurtful light. it is not painful for me to have ownership of this responsibility and i take it seriously.

i understand what you are saying. but i also feel that christ is not so inept and cowardly that he must be defended by hiding from truth. i am quite confident that it only empowers, not weakens.

i do hear what you say. but son has printed a clear distinction from some in christianity and others.

your way, of not clearly showing that it is a small group of hate, only allows a continued anger and hurt and receptive hate because then ALL christians are lumped as one.

part of the problem is the MAJORITY of christians have been quiet, and it is the small group with the loudest voice, representing christ in the lords name.

i also feel that woman have a responsibility to speak out against fellow sisters. ect... to be fair and balanced

15. I agree with you fully.
Too many people ignore the good Christianity has had on the world(helping to form charity hospitals, pushing for a greater understanding and compassion for the poor, not to mention Christendom's mostly positive involvement in the Civil Rights Movement), in favour of the bad actions undertaken by so-called "Christians" in the past.

Being deeply religious it pains me to read about all of these inflammatory and hateful attacks on Christianity, and I don't just mean here on DU, but in other places as well.

I've met some fanatical Christians, men and women. They scare me.

34. On the contrary
According to them they are the True Christians, and you are the fake ones because you don't adhere to the Bible as strictly as they do. Stop playing the No True Scotsman card just because you don't like the hatred some of your fellow Christians spew against others, and the way it reflects so poorly upon your religion.

30. and I'm a NT kinda Christian, since ya know, the NT is the NT according to Jesus Christ after all, &
these fundamentalist Christians should be following that Christ's message of love for all, and knowledgeable that He died for all of our sins before we could even conceive them, and for them to somehow focus upon another human being's partnering with another human being, and judging it, is wicked. I really think your son made Jesus Christ smile over His child. I am deeply touched in my spirit over him feeling led in his, to write such an interesting poem. He made this gay guy very prayerful to Christ. I'm sure you're proud of him.

angels of mercy watch over the boy, and bless him further strength in his spirit for his gifts You have given, o Lord, protecting his countenance and his internal spirit when mocked by those who cannot see... amen

27. There are many many many Christian DUers, most are quiet and ignore the militant types who attack
with "sky fairy", "sky daddy", "flying spaghetti monster", etc taunts instead of just letting each person believe what they choose. I really enjoyed the poem as a follower of Christ, until I got to the end, but the structure of the poem, and the underlying meaning appears to be one of talking about how judged children of God (in this case, those of us who are GLBT) are being tormented daily, and it is daily, by those who portend God is going to condemn all Gays to hell, and in reality, "their" god, isn't God at all, but man, and man's cruelty. Thus, the last paragraph needs to be seen as one chastising their hatred, and their version of our Savior is in fact, themselves, and they only need to look in the mirror. At least, that is how I took it after reading the poem twice. The writer may feel differently, but I see it as showing GOD's undying love for His children, and calling out the cruelty of those who say they are reflecting only GOD's word, which we clearly believe they are not! I think sea's son did a really nice job! Poetry usually has a deeper thought within its words, and I commend him, and pray for a blessing on him.

for GOD so loved His world, that He gave His only Son, that WHO-SO-EVER believes in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life - John 3:16

Your Jesus rather than just Jesus that it was apparent he meant the Fundamentalists micromanaging, wrathy, hateful, version of Jesus. (The one they created in their image.) He was writing the poem to the Fundagelicals, after all.

24. i am a calif, living in texas for a couple decades. personally, i had never experienced
fundamentalists. i dont know if in the time (60's-80's) it wasnt prevelant or the area. but, living here and experiencing first hand, especially seeing it progress and magnify and intensify in the early 2000's, i learned so much i would have never understood. one of my concerns having babies in this area is them being conditioned to believe this... shit. lol.

what i found was truly amazing. we got the opposite. i feel blessed we got to experience. my boys would not be the same, or had the same insight without the contradictive experience to challenge them at every. damn. point. of their development and growth.

it has allowed them to internalize, feel empathy, being strong and speaking out, and challenge what they disagree with in respect and love. always, with respect and love.

so, though, sometimes we may be afraid, it can turn out to be a very good thing.

and ya

i love the kids. they make my life really easy, as teens, lol, with the choices they make. i would have a tough time being with a nonthinking kid. would drive me nutty.
