John Travolta denied reservation at KFC
John Travolta denied reservation at KFC

John Travolta had a hankering for finger-lickin'-good chicken. But when he tried to reserve a table at a KFC last Friday, he was flat-out denied.

Travolta was traveling in England last week for an annual Scientology gathering, when one of his representatives apparently called a KFC and asked to reserve a table for Travolta and friends, according to the Daily Mail. Rather than kowtow to the request, the employee reportedly explained that if Travolta wanted to dine there, he would have to wait on line like a civilian.

KFC headquarters doesn't stand by the employee's decision, though. "In hindsight, of course, we would have reserved a table for him," explained a spokesperson. "It's not every day you get a Hollywood star eating in your restaurant."

But the employee stands by his actions, saying, "To me, customers are customers, no matter who they are. It doesn't make a difference if someone is famous."

1. Good for the employee.
I so agree with him.

I actually am a little surprised at the Travolta's for making this an issue. In fact, it dropped my opinion of them down a notch or two.

and the fact that we know about it through the press office of KFC and know the employees name means that someone made a big fucking deal about it.

38. I also too second that.
The odds are that KFC does not have a policy or a procedure for reservations. Because if it did everyone would have to included in those who could make reservations, and KFC would have to turn away thousands of potential customers.

Their business is into low priced food sold as rapidly as possible. They don't want customers camping out at their tables or their parking spaces.

94. Not really.
when I worked in film, we referred to the general public as civilians.

Also when I worked at a catalog company years ago, we also referred to them as civilians when we were talking in meetings and customers when we were on the floor.

this isn't anything special.

I do wonder about Travolta's taste in food as well. He could afford better than factory farmed chicken fried in lard and served greasy enough to lubricate a car engine. ACK. Maybe he should have tried the haggis drive-in down the street!

People who work in restaurants in the UK don't work for tips. Plus there is not a tipping culture either.

I think the employee is correct. KFC & reservations? Most KFC's I've seen in the UK are take-out only.

Yes, it is unusual for a tip. But it is does happen. I have sat down and ate at a KFC in England (didn't tip). Yes, reservations for fastfood is not done. But as a business, you cater to your customers. Do you really think John Tavaltra would not being willing to pay a premium and reward employees for such service?

Have none of you been to a birthday party at McDonalds or Burger King? So what that he and his friends thought it courteous to call ahead and have a section marked off? I imagine they'd be able to be prepared then for them all with much less mayhem than if he'd arrived without calling.

Have you ever heard of someone reserving a table at KFC?

And a double phuck no if he's bringing his filthy scientology assholes with him.

35. Travolta should do the proper thing as a Scientologist
Edited on Sat Oct-22-11 07:30 AM by Bragi
He should subject the disagreeable employee to a spiritual audit, take all his money, and slap him with a libel suit.

39. A VIP appearance is good for the restaurant.
The smart thing to do is give him the reservation, assuming you want to improve business.

41. How is Travolta's requesting a
reservation a request to be kowtowed to? Sounds to me as if he merely asked if he could make a reservation for him and his friends. It also sounds to me as if the employee who turned him down was giving himself a big ego boost by doing so.

I hate rude people, especially those who brag about it to the press.

just because he has more of it doesn't mean he gets to make others lose a table

he should just send some cronies to pick him up a 10 piece meal and eat it in his freaking five star hotel room

92. I sat next to a famous actor and actress once at an everyday diner.
I had no clue of who they were. I would know Travolta, but under no circumstances would I bother him.

I watch so little television and don't spend time on celeb blogs. I could have very well been shoulder to shoulder with other rich or famous people and would not have known, or frankly, have cared.
