Senators call on job site to prohibit ads that display discrimination against the unemployed
Discriminatory practices that exclude unemployed workers in the job market continue, as evidence emerged today of numerous recent job postings on CareerBuilder.com stating candidates "must be currently employed." News of the most recent exclusionary job ads comes as the three U.S. Senators sponsoring legislation to ban the discriminatory job market practices have called on CareerBuilder.com to stop posting such ads.

Senators Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York sent a letter today to CareerBuilder CEO Matt Ferguson asking CareerBuilder to "prohibit companies from posting job opportunities that discriminate against potential applicants based on their employment status."

Releasing the text of their letter to CareerBuilder in a statement today, the Senators noted their sponsorship of the Fair Employment Opportunity Act that would outlaw discrimination against unemployed job-seekers, legislation given a boost this summer with the release of a report by the National Employment Law Project featured on this blog.

2. The discrimination will continue, just not in the ads...
They will figure out other ways to ferret out that info and discriminate against those "losers."

3. How is this not a sign that revolution is inevitable?
Seriously, if the people who run a society decide that anyone who becomes unemployed is thereafter forever unemployable, then this will inevitably lead to building an underclass that has no options to survive beyond crime and social revolution.

At that point, I think it's fair to say it's over for the people running that society. It's just a matter of time.

4. I think we're seeing the beginnings of an uprising with the 99'ers and Occupy Wall Street

These systems of unemployment discrimination and the usage of credit scores have become so well ingrained into the system that people who are unemployed or don't have good scores might as well wear a big red "U" or "L" on their chests respectively.

People don't like that and the ideas of perpetual stigma and vicious circles certainly do not mesh with the ideas of being able to move up, meritocracy, and the American dream. I'm surprised this hasn't started sooner.

5. I agree. Here's what my instincts tell me right now
The 99% movement will continue and grow, but the Occupy movement won't because, for tactical reasons, it is too vulnerable to attack by the security apparatus to be sustainable.

Next step after permanent Occupy sites are attacked and protesters jailed: I see a future for social media-organized "Flash Occupations" by the 99% that will be huge and unstoppable.
