biggovernment.com says Lech Walesa won't attend OWS
I won't link to it, so I can't quote from it. Here's their headline:

"Lech Walesa Not Attending #OccupyWallStreet in New York After Discovering Hard-Left Organizers"

They claim that the decision was due to 'information' they provided.

1. It probably has more to do with the juvenilistic nature of the event
than "information" provided by big g .com.

39. Hippies sound like they were so cool, and they were so
right about everything. I wish I could have been one. Is that why the far rightwing wackos hate them, or fear them probably? Or maybe it was because the chickenhawks on the right were so unpopular when they were teenagers, and the hippies were so popular, that they are still jealous of them.

They have been seething with envy & resentment for 50 freaking years.

Totally pathetic.

They cannot admit that they were wrong then, and so have remained STUCK.

Totally pathetic.

Many will die that way.

4. He's a pro-capitalist buddy of Thatcher and Reagan
Edited on Sat Oct-22-11 11:47 AM by Cal Carpenter
He endorsed Repubs in the US as recently as last year and is anti-choice, among a thousand other things that should give pause to anyone at this site. His announcement of support garnered 500+ recommendations on this site which I fund sort of hilarious and sort of horrifying, I think I was almost the only dissenting voice on that thread.

Of course he is anti-left. He always has been.

The lack of ideological understanding or historical accuracy is astounding here sometimes.

eta: I'm not defending the source of this OP in any way. But I have been wondering, after all the press about his announcement of support last week, what ever happened with his 'visit'.

23. I think it is lack of ideology and historical understanding more than it is lack of leaders
Leaders can give us rhetoric that may inspire emotion but accomplish nothing. What we need is a population with a much stronger understanding of how we got here, the systemic nature of our economic and social problems, and the ability to even look at alternatives to what we have now.

31. Agree to a point
That point being the ideological and historical understanding from the electorate when they pivoted the new FDR into the WH after he campaigned from the Left. To the best of their ability it looks like voters thought they had some idea of economic and social problems.

Sadly, both parties have become adept at convincing they're actually 'alternatives.'

41. I well remember the day George Bush gave a speech to Poles about his hateful, criminal war.
His yapping lies were performed in some outdoor square of a centuries-old Krakow palace that somehow hadn't been bombed to shit in WWII. The icy glares at that man as he tried to sell his war was received as if some slobbering drunken pimp was trying to sell a diseased prostitute.

Most Poles hated that goddamned war and knew full well it was all alie. Europe didn't have a media blackout like we had here in the U.S.

I was kind of shocked he supported it in the first place, though he was leader of a union that calls itself the wobbly phrase/slogan Solidarity, so he is a very contradictory figure, and difficult to understand.

I also dont know whether to trust this news since it is only being reported on bagger websites.

But probably not if the Human Rights Campaign gives him a call.

"Lech Walesa is a prominent homophobe

Walesa himself also made all sorts of statements. It is well known that he is a homophobe and has never denied that. So it is not strange for him to make statements such as “homosexuality is an illness that needs to be cured”."

58. Well, you could have jumped in anytime.
How long was I to wait? The public is clamoring for information, like, say...Walesa is anti-abortion, or Walesa supported a Republican politician in Illinois...came all the way across the sea just because. Wasn't that nice of him, just showed up in support, and went to a Chicago "Taste of Teabag" festival.

He must have been very...inspired...to do such a thing.

"...Former President of Poland Lech Walesa came to Chicago to support Adam Andrzejewski as the GOP candidate for Governor.

“As you see I support Adam..I am convinced that he is right. But we live in times that people do not always listen to those that are right”, said Walesa speaking through a translator.

(Walesa) stopped by a Tea Party Function in downtown Chicago that was organized to give support to a number of candidates in this Tuesday’s election."

I don't know myself, but I do know the kind of anti-union publicity stunts Koch-level money can buy. Maybe Pierce might publicly ask Lech Welesa what exactly his beef is with unions and US Marines? I'd love to hear the answer.
