Perry's tax MASTER PLAN: Flat Tax, raises tax on lower & middle-income, giving breaks to wealthiest
Perry is borrowing a page from the playbook of Steve Forbes, a longtime flat-tax advocate who is advising the campaign.

***

Perry’s plan “will rip out this 10 million-word monstrosity," Forbes told Fox News, referring to the current tax code. Forbes said Perry's plan will "lower the price of good things like risk taking, success and productive work.”

“It’s going to get rid of a lot corruption in Washington,” he continued. “Half the lobbying revolves around the tax code. And it’s going to give more time to the American people. Last year, we spent 6.5 billion hours filling out tax forms, the equivalent of 3 million full-time jobs.”

But liberal groups quickly criticized Perry's idea, saying it would raise taxes on lower- and middle-income Americans while giving breaks to the wealthiest.

3. Why the flat tax is a bad idea
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/hfojvt/69

Basically, if it is "revenue neutral" then by giving $112 billion in tax cuts to rich people, it would have to give $112 billion in tax increases to poorer people. And we KNOW it gives tax breaks to rich people.

Also, I would beware the Republicans likely trick. They will compare a flat tax to a different baseline. If you compare the flat tax to income taxes AFTER the Bush tax cuts, then it will not give as big a tax break to the rich - because the Bush tax cuts ALREADY gave huge tax breaks to the rich and their savings from a flat tax would be in addition to what they already saved thanks to Bush.

4. I'm sure the pig will be completely covered in lipstick before its grand unveiling
Since I was obeying the DU rule for four paragraphs, I left out the part where Palin said she endorses it. If that's not a red flag, I don;t know what is.
