1. Interesting how this line of "argument" against OWS always comes down to:
"I managed to do something very difficult therefore there is no reason for others to think that the system is to blame." It's a strange sort of solipsism. All there is is me. If others have a different experience, that has nothing to do with me. There's no reason why I should look at or think about the world at large. It's the complete victory of the idea that each of us exists in an individual bubble.

Given the propagandistic vultures hovering about everywhere, this is a difficult view to argue against in soundbite world.

9. Maybe they are teaching Solopsism 101 in school
sure seems like the building of "self confidence" trend in child rearing has led to some overly confident young idiots out there.

2. His story is exactly the same as the 99%ers yet he hates the 99%
I guess he's gonna be a CEO one day because he obviously has the right attitude for it.

3. Why is the face of the person holding the paper darkened out?

For all we know, it could be Liz Cheney holding it...

Republicans are known for their deceptiveness.

4. If he's working 30+ hours/week he's not majoring in Physics
or Engineering.

That or he is in a university where the grade scale is so eroded someone half asleep can pass

5. How did someone so clueless and lacking in contextual understanding get into college? It's baffling.
Edited on Sat Oct-22-11 09:49 PM by firehorse
I heard a report on the demonstrators. The majority of the people there are employed and educated and their unemployment rates reflect the country. The other important point, is over 70% of the demonstrators make under $50,000. In other words their pay is not reflecting their education.

I've been down there a few times and a surprising number of people I spoke to are college professors. There were also workers who have worked decades yet have lost 401k plans, or they are other hard working senior citizens who will never get to retire and will have to "work till they die".

I think the people that don't get this movement, confuse their own misguided delusions of what they "aspire" to be, confusing it with who they actually are. Even if you are someone who came from a middle class background for instance, doesn't mean you get a free ticket into middle class economic tier anymore like the old days. Even if you look at countries in the middle east, you will find highly educated youth, frustrated with no jobs. In NYC, there are plenty of cab drivers who went to med school, with masters degrees, engineering degrees etc. These same people are waiting tables, and working for catering companies well into their 40's.

That college kid who wrote this, is one hospital bill away from bankrupting her/his family.

6. And he goes to a socialist state supported public university
So the taxpayers of his state are subsidizing at least some of his education.

7. The huge, gaping flaw in his logic: "I work my ass off for everything I have
That's how it's supposed to work."

Well, if that's how it's supposed to work, then all the billionaire's kids should have to work too. But they don't.

8. "You were a big fish in a little pond" One prospective employer
on wall street told me after he asked me why I didn't go to Harvard but chose a smaller cheaper school closer to home for my undergraduate degree.

This was in the early 80's and I don't know if that was a normal interview, (I didn't get the job), but the traders were making tons of money. They knew they had great jobs and they knew they had the pick of the litter when it came to hiring for those jobs.
