DirecTV may pull plug on Fox shows
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/10/22/directv-may-pull-plug-on-fox-shows/

By Reuters
Saturday, October 22, 2011

(Reuters) – A dispute has broken out between News Corp owned Fox Networks and DirecTV Group, the largest U.S. satellite TV provider, over carriage fees that could potentially lead to DirecTV pulling the plug on Fox channels from Nov 1.

“(Fox) are currently asking our customers to pay 40 percent more for the exact same Fox channels that they already receive and that is simply unfair and unwarranted,” DirecTV said in a statement.

Fox said in a statement that the company had proposed to keep the Fox Networks on DirecTV for the same price and on the same terms while an agreement is worked out.

4. Isn't Direct TV owned by Newscorp?
If so I'd be surprised if something like this even came close to happening.

5. Owned only partly.
They have an interest, but they are not the only ones with ownership, and the other groups outweigh them, they only own 34% of it.

9. Much less than 34%.
AFAIK Newscorpse got rid of virtually all their stock, and their directors on the DirecTV board stood down.

If I was the voice talent on the Simpsons, I would question the contract they just signed.

7. Pay for Propaganda (R)?
How twisted is that.

Cut the cable. Starve the beast (R - Fox).

10. You are correct...'News' Corp is happy to give that pollution away for free.
For the stuff people want, they are asking for a 40% increase.

11. Your understanding is correct.
From DirecTV's ourpromisetoyou.com website:

"The channels involved are FX, National Geographic Channel, Speed Channel, Fox Soccer Channel, Fox Soccer Plus, Fox Movie Channel, Fox Deportes and FuelTV. Some of you may also lose the 13 Fox Sports regional networks that televise some college football and NHL hockey into your home communities. Your local FOX broadcast station and Fox News Channel are not involved."

14. If DirecTV were serious
they would pin Fox News to the deal. If no deal can be reached on the others, then FNC goes too.

Fox would turn around in a heartbeat, since FNC is give-away propaganda.

15. Most of those channels are extra, we have basic
And those channels use to be free, now its extra. So we do without, not a big deal for us. Seriously considering dropping Direct TV an just stay with local antenna. Tired of seeing constant increases in price!!!

19. As opposed to sitting on your ass writing diatribes on an anonymous internet chat board?
People do all sorts of "sitting on your ass" activities. What makes one inherently better than the other? You don't like sports, fine, don't watch them. But why use broadbrush smears against those who do like sports?

16. I watch stuff on FMC and FX once in a blue moon
otherwise I won't miss 'em at all. FMC is the only one that plays movies like The Committments without bleeping it all to hell, though, so it will be a loss. In addition, there are no ads breaking up the flicks. It's just that they're restricted to things Fox produced or distributed, so the selection's a little thin.

Direct has been running information channels here and there about the dispute.

It's all because Pox has been hemorrhaging money at Pox News and Pox Business and only the sports and entertainment channels have been solvent.

18. This happened with Dish a while back.
Even when it got settled, I left all fox channels disabled. Just recently enabled fox sports so I could watch the Tigers. I have no FX, no local fox. Nearly fox-free.
