FOX poll on teachers: Lazy bastards or no?
http://gretawire.foxnewsinsider.com/poll/poll-about-teachers-make-sure-you-vote-in-this-poll

"What better describes your view of elementary school teachers?

very tough job with lots of responsibility with low pay 71.12% (362 votes)

not so tough job - short day and have summer off 28.88% (147 votes)

Total Votes: 509"

So far this is going as well for them as their OWS poll, but I thought some DUers would also enjoy further ruining their day.

19. That's likely the rule for K-12, especially in the first half or so of the career.
(I'm in higher ed-- definitely a lot less taxing than K-12 and yet requires less qualification.)

7. Some scary ignoramuses on that thread
One numbnut even suggests teachers negotiate their own salaries so they don't need a union to do that for them. LOL Gotcha. I'll run right down to the school board building during my 30 minute lunch tomorrow to put in a bid for my salary.

because the school buildings are CLOSED?

Geez. I pity the district that educated HIM. I'm sure he was a real treat. LOL

And the nurse who says teachers don't work hard because they get weekends and holidays off, unlike nurses. She also claims teachers in her town are paid $27K and that's too much. :scared:

12. My child spends more time with her teacher (and daycare) than I do
I wake her up in bed at 6:10 - two snoozes and we are up at 6:20

I have probably been up since 4:00 and been for a run.

We got downstairs to (sorry) TV - SpongeBob or Phineas and breakfast - poptarts are the new treat my often peanut butter "Hoobs" or eggs and sausage or eggs and potatoes...everything with tomatoes and/or fruit.

Then we either go to daycare (bus to school) or straight to school (later start even though it is within walking distance).

My wife picks her up around 6 PM. She does get 2or 3 recesses everyday. And we eat by 7.

Bed at 8:30ish - with reading that lasts at least 20 minutes.

I get 4-5 hours with her a day. School is 6 hours, daycare 4.

PAY THESE PEOPLE.

I'm not saying teachers shouldn't be paid more. But seriously, with all the negative crap we teachers have been deflecting lately, we fail to share what an honor it is to teach your children.

The rewards are many.

I just want the bashing to stop.

52. The reasons for the venom against teachers is two fold
according to rightwing lore the Dept. of Education is the result of liberal leaders teaming up with BLACK TEACHERS years ago. That could be true but I have run across that meme more and more the last few months.

Talking down schools and education conditions people to expect less pay.

34. It's Share the Comments time!!
Kids would do betting in school if their parents weren't so lazy and dependent on the government.

Why aren't you teachers preparing for tomorrow's lessons? You are here whining and claim you are always grading papers or preparing lessons. Are you one of the lazy teachers who only want to complain.

They probably already called for substitutes, and the state will pay for both. What a deal when the taxpayers pay for it.

Take a hike moron, you're not worth a argument. Nice teacher!!

Just don't reply to this group, just troublemakers is all they are.

AND STILL THE FLOW OF FAKE TEACHERS CONTINUES, MAN THIS IS A HOOT.
I HAD TO WALK TO SCHOOL IN THE DARK IN THE SNOW WITH NO SHOES AND CARRING ALL OF MY STUDENTS ON MY BACK.

Now we at Gretawire know what a flash mob is like.

47. Man,
Republicans really really REALLY hate 'whining.' I have seen it a whole bunch with them complaining about OWS as well. But then they also do it a lot, themselves, too. So it's weird.

But yeah, they really hate it. Maybe they even hate whining as much as they hate…everyone non-hetero-white-male.

No, that's just silly.

But for sure it's like a distant second or something.

48. That poll kills me
I've subbed when other jobs weren't available. Maintaining order by itself can be tough enough, much less trying to actually teach. Honestly, I'm amazed when people with no clue decide to bash on teachers. Trying to teach with inadequate supplies, trying to maintain discipline with no support from the administration, what exactly do these people think is happening?

I'm a pretty cynical guy. This poll is unbelievably cynical to me. The whole idea is to compound the misery for some of the most important people in the country solely to benefit politically. It's just disgusting.

49. "What exactly do these people think is happening?"
We're not providing profits to the private sector, that is our main sin. RW think tanks have perpetuated the Big Lie that teachers are just useless government parasites, and let people who are chained to the cheapskate private sector wallow in fear and hate that someone might be getting a better deal. Really though, the private sector is busily trying to find their way to burrow into all of that lovely public money going to schools. The rest is the fascist process of manufactured consent.
