3. and John Bolton complained over the week-end that Obama
opposed any attempts to change the Iraqui decision. So right now Obama is getting shot down from the Right for failing to pressure the Iraquis to let uay, and getting shot down from the Left because both Iraquis and Americans want us out.

4. Can the USA be blamed if the damn Iraqis just don't get what's good for them?
Edited on Mon Oct-24-11 01:45 AM by truedelphi
David Broder was all about the new meme on Friday night.

We have to demand that Iraqi government understand all the sacrificing and efforts we have put into our occupation there. They have no gratitude!

The Iraqi people keep focusing on trivialities like one million people killed, ten times that number wounded, and then another four million or so people who have decided to become refugees. When they could spend that time being grateful!

David Broder died in March. Must have been the Zombie David Broder if he "was all about the new meme Friday night".

Here's some history on "The Very Serious David Broder":

8. The truth rarely pops up at the Daily Kos blog.
If you read some of the trash they are supporting over there, you will see more anti-Obama articles than pro-Obama articles on any given day of the week.

Same is true for the firebagging blog.

They used to be fairly reliable sources to get information about Bush, but they aren't reliable as sources about Obama.

11. Iraq wouldn't grant immunity for any remaining troops, and Obama said...SEE YA!!!
Good on him. Win-win (although the guy can't *win* for losing these days, imo).

27. Anything that can be pinned on them...
They had immunity the entire time they were there... the Iraqi's said, no more.

Win win for Obama... but he won't get credit for doing the right thing when there was really only one choice.

15. You miss the point, the state dept and the DOD asked them for
continued immunity.

it's not a matter of saying "see ya!", it's a matter of the Iraqi's saying, "get the hell out!".

I'm glad the troops are coming home, but let's not call it what it isn't.

18. Aha - I get you. However, Iraq has always told us to *get the hell out,*
and Prez O knew it then and now. I still think it a win-win and I don't begrudge
the *denied immunity* meme. Obama has been anti-Iraq war all along. What has always
confused me is the degree to which people have pressed for an end to something that
is so massive and complicated, politically speaking. Now that the end is near,
a lot of those same people find even MORE about which to be critical.

Just one woman's opinion ...

14. Listening to Rachel last friday with guest host Mellisa Harris Perry and
her guest Richard Engel is nothing but unmitigated pap.

Melissa and Richard go on and on about the glory of leaving Iraq, without stating exactly why. Richard made a small mention of no immunity, but never expounded on it or explained in detail what it meant. They just tossed it aside. Instead they go on and on about how brilliant Obama is regarding this move.

While I'm absolutely delighted that the troops are finally coming home, let's not put lipstick on this pig and call it a pageant winner, okay?

The Iraqi's stated that the US military can not have immunity against crimes they commit on Iraqi soil. And that was the deal breaker. If the puppets in Iraq stated, "oh sure! You want to commit crimes? Knock yourself out, you get a free pass!", we would still very much be there.

once again, the bullshit that passes for reporting in this country is just disgusting.

31. If we wanted to stay we would no matter what the Iraqis say..
Remember they did invite us into their country, nor did they rise up and overthrow their leaders as happened in Libya and Egypt and Tunisia, etc....If Obama wanted troops to stay they would indeed stay...PERIOD

32. so we are arguing what?
to stay or not to stay?

I'm glad we are leaving.

I think the simple difference here is not staying or leaving is that, yes we do want to stay, but Obama, unlike George W. Moron* chooses to honor the Iraqi's demands.

To me that is the story that needs to be highlighted, not the fact that "it's time to leave" BS.

All the stories I have read regarding this, never ever highlight that concept, they always burying deep in the story that the US is not staying because the military wasn't getting immunity.

If there is another reason, as I have stated above, then the press secretary should run with that story. Not the usual boilerplate crap.

Aren't you tired of the constant spin all of the politicians, Dept of Defense, the State Dept and all the repukes and Dems in the congress use daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and across each administration?

I am. I just want to know the real facts and not the wall paper they constantly put up.

35. No I have no argument other then the fact the the USA will do whatever the fuck it wants and screw
anyone that objects.. To say that the reason we are leaving is because the Iraqis say so, makes me laugh.. Bush* signed an agreement ending our presence there and the Iraqis are wanting to stick to it..If Obama decided we were not going to leave then that would be that. We would not leave no matter what the iraqis had to say.....It is time for it to be over though and pretty much everyone in America knows it.. It should never have occured in the first place...

independence more than a unilateral and "magnanimous" decision on our part to leave.

Pullout pleases, worries Iraqis
http://www.reporternews.com/news/2011/oct/23/pullout-pleases-worries-iraqis/

BAGHDAD —For the first time in decades, Iraqis face a future on their own, with neither Saddam Hussein's iron fist nor U.S. military might over them.

This has been both their dream and nightmare. They wanted American troops — the occupiers — to go, but they wanted American troops — the protectors — to stay.

Now many fear an increase in violence, growing Iranian influence and political turmoil after President Barack Obama's definitive announcement that almost all U.S. forces will leave by the end of the year.

And we were planning to leave anyway

I cannot believe the same people complaining that we were not out of their by Jan. 21, 2009 are now finding something new to complain about. They why not be happy for them that we have complied?
