About 3 months ago, I stumbled upon the website World Community Grid by IBM and signed up to donate my unused computer time to scientific/technological research. The website looked very professional and very legit. After 3 months of leaving my computer on 24/7 and watching the points I've earned rack up, I have nothing but good things to say about this application. Its simply the easiest way that anyone can contribute to science, sign up, leave your computer on, and recruit others to do the same. The one major frusteration I have, is that World Community Grid does a horrible job of increasing popularity about the application and how it can benefit everyone. Also, too many people are worried about getting viruses from participating, something that while not impossible, is highly unlikely. I wish that "serious computer games" that have the potential to accelerate scientific and technological innovation would become as popular as computer/video games and facebook apps such as farmville, which contribute absolutely nothing to mankind!! Maybe with some creativity, that can happen. This website really needs to have links to World Community Grid, and FoldIT. Every corporation should be proud to be a partner of it and participate in it and encourage employees to do the same.
Its so frusterating to think of all the corporate, business and personl computers that are sitting idle, when they could be using to solve complex scientific problems to cure diseases such as Cancer, HIV/Aids and Muscular Dystrophy.
please sign up for World Community Grid, leave your computer on 24/7 and tell your friends/ family members, and co-workers to do the same!!!
