They credit this to 3,000 NYPD officers needed at the Occupy Wall Street protests in order to "maintain peace"

4. A percentage can be misleading, look at the raw numbers

I went to the NY Post article and last year it was 17 shootings, this year in the same time period it was 22 shootings. Not a huge number (unless you were one of the ones shot).

Any large event will draw police officers away from their regular assignment and it is entirely probable, REGARDLESS of the event, that there will be upticks in the crime statistics while the event occurs.

OWS is not responsible for this, just like the NY Yankees would not be responsible if they had made the World Series and there was an uptick in crime during the games.
