MTV to air 'True Life: I'm Occupying Wall Street' on Nov. 5

Remember, remember the fifth of November.

The protesters involved in the Occupy Wall Street have had a variety of supporters champion their cause, from politically-minded musicians like Pete Seeger and Kanye West, to actors like Alec Baldwin and Susan Sarandon. But the grassroots uprising, which continues to gain the attention of those in Hollywood and beyond (OWS protests have popped up in cities across the United States since it began in New York City in September), may have no bigger name backing them than MTV.

The network has been eager to give a voice to all those who are calling for political and financial change for the “99 percent.” In addition to a casting call for OWS protesters to try out for the next season of The Real World, the network will air a new installment of their docu-series True Life, for an episode called “I’m Occupying Wall Street.” The episode — which will chronicle “three young people on the front lines of the movement in New York City … capture the day-to-day realities of the protesters and uncover some of the motivations that continue to drive them” — is set to air on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m.

This could be interesting and a good way to reach out to younger viewers. I may even have to watch it.

1. I think once it becomes an MTV reality show ...
You'd better be worried.

4. LOL!
I can see it now: Lacy and some young, educated, unemployed fellow doing the Foxtrot to "Brother, Can You Spare a Dime."

3. Hopefully th Occupiers with subvert this
and make it their own, Philippe Dauman, the CEO of MTV’s parent company Viacom, took home twice the amount of money he made in 2009: $85 million.

5. Hard to make it your own when they're the ones in the editing booth
but hopefully they'll minimize available footage of people saying stupid things

7. I think the disruption of filming
Edited on Mon Oct-24-11 02:45 PM by occupyeverywhere
could cause them to abandon this effort, I don't see everybody at the OWS being behind this, of course MTV will try to cordon off an area and have their shoot but I think OWS could completely subvert this and at least get some press over it. I for one would like to see OWS hound the film crew until they give up.

6. And when will some network start airing "Lost on the Wall Street Occupation"?
Complete, of course, with voting contestants off of the occupation? ;-)

Yeah, laugh; but just wait and see how the MSM tries to cheapen it.
