we are bringing our boys home

After years of war we are finally bringing our troops home. Thats a big savings of maimed and dead warriors let alone 2 billion a week of money poorly spent. Karzi said it all when he stated he would back Pakistan! so what if they have a civil war? with that type of leadership I'd say it could be a blessing for that region.
we have gained little appreciation from that area;a god forsaken place where conflict has been a way of life for centuries.
I haven't seen one bullet used in Saudi arabia where the majority of 911 culprits were from(an they have more oil than iraq).
2 billion a week for 10 years would have rebuilt all the infrastructure that has decayed in this country! oh but the 1% couldn't have stole it so easily !
end poverty in the usa-stop war!

2. It's amazing how difficult it is to shake old paradigms for some.
I get a bit irritated when I hear that "boys" stuff, to be honest. It's the 21st Century. All you have to do is watch the video from the theater and you plainly see women in service over there.

I served with a lot of very capable women in the military--we certainly shouldn't be leaving them behind, now, should we!

6. Thank you, MADem
Calling the 3M plus women who have served and are serving "boys" makes them invisible.

16. Too late now. I vote for Error Noted, Let's Let It Go.
Some mistakes are not meant to denigrate, they're simply a consequence of stereotypical conditioning over the course of years.

All we can do is correct/educate.

15. And yet
you didn't bother to fix it? Did they teach you sexism in the military, or do you come by it naturally?

19. Thank you for your service and...
...I didn't feel slighted at all, just elated and wanting to include everyone (without suggesting that you didn't).

We do this all the time, like saying "what do you guys want to do?" to a room full of both sexes.

I've even heard women use the term with groups of women.

:hi:

3. In the future, history books will look at these wars in utter bafflement.
What did we have to gain from them? All wars have great costs, but usually there is some ultimate gain, if it is nothing more than the elimination of an existential threat to the nation, but the Taliban never threatened the US. Saddam, with his large army, was never a threat to the US, and hardly a real threat to his neighbors (some of whom are supposedly our friends). Bin Laden was a threat to Americans, but never to America.

There was not benefit in security, in stability, in world prestige - in fact, all three suffered because of these wars.

So why, they will wonder, did we ever do it?

I wish I knew.

5. direct from rick perry's speech in north carolina

" by giving a one time tax return for off shore money: approx 1 billion which could create 2.9 million jobs"
well koch boy candidate by bringing the troops home from war saves 2 billion a week or according to you would put 5.8 million americans to work each week-so don't blame Obama -blame your oil cartel in the state of texas and people like you and bush who push their agenda!
rebuild america-fence in texas oil cartel!

4. Can we please stop with the 'boys' and 'girls' meme?
For better or worse, those men and women don't deserve that.

Welcome home, troops.

9. Absolutely! These are not children, but adult men and women.
Treat them respectfully as adults.

10. I'm sure you know I mean no disrespect

yes I'm well aware their are women serving as well as men. and their are gays as their always has been.
I'm a little older so I was thinking of the song bring the boys home,I am a vet as many others in my family tree-the only female I know of in our family was from canada.
so please forgive me for my error but don't train wreck the message we are long over due ending this conflict.

13. OK,
but asking for the recognition and respect we're due, both men and women, isn't train wrecking. BTW, many of those 'boys' are African-Americans.

11. Are we really? Or will they just go to Afghanistan and other places like Kenya?
I, for one, am skeptical that this means our "leaders" have learned anything about senseless interventions.
