Police Censor The Media As They Unleash Devastating Force On Occupy Oakland

Coverage for the Occupy Oakland demonstration was just terminated coincidentally just as the police arrived on the scene — the only livestream available is without sound. According to various sources, the media has been told to turn off their cameras and depart the scene and they reportedly acquiesced.

And good luck stopping people from using their camera phones. Sending vibes to keep the people safe. They are not the criminals!!!!

5. I noticed that - as soon as the cops prepared to fire tear gas both abc and cbs streams went dark
the local abc station now says it had to go refuel their chopper - seems quite an odd coincidence and odd timing for both the abc and cbs streams to go dark right when the cops attacked though.

9. They managed to 'refuel' in exactly the same ten minutes it took
the OPD to teargas the protesters. Amazing coincidence that, eh?

6. Some of us were watching tonight and it is true. All of
a sudden the aircam on the helicopter had to "refuel", the Ustream that was Live went dead and another local station shut off. then we read via a tweet that the gassing had happened.

11. Oakland is becoming a Police State... if its not already..
Damn you bastards, this is not the way to run a Democracy. The mayor needs to be held accountable, as does the Chief of Police.

I am very scared right now. This stuff has to stop. Some people are wielding way too much power. The cops want to insight violence! What scares me is that this could spread.. to other California cities, and outside the state. This is going to turn very ugly soon and if not dealt with, people are going to be hurt or worse.

12. Oakland must have changed a lot since I lived there
I lived there in the late 60s, early 70s, right near the Oakland-Berkeley boundary. Oakland seemed to be a pretty liberal place, where Huey Newton founded the Black Panthers. I remember marching for the Indians occupying Alcatraz Island back then. There was a big march that I attended to protest the murder of Charles Oatman, a 16 year old mentally retarded black youth who was found tortured and killed in his jail cell in Georgia. The Georgia police covered up the murder and claimed that the boy had died from a fall in his cell and an accidental blow to his head while in police custody. That incident made headlines across the country because the next day, black people in that Georgia town protested police brutality and 6 men were shot to death by the police, with 5 others wounded. There was a very long line of marchers that went through the downtown city streets of Oakland and the police were very cooperative with the protesters, as I recall. The whole thing was freely televised and I even saw myself later on the evening news. But that was back in 1970 and I guess things have really changed.

14. The Mainstream Press Outlets are even WORSE than in 2001.
They have ALL been completely co-opted.

Before the Invasion of Iraq, there was at least some time & space given to Opposition Voices.
For the Bombing of Libya, there was NONE, ZERO.
Even the more "liberal" outlets were Pro-WAR all of the time,
ALL on the same page catapulting the government Cover Story.

15. Luckily we have the intertubes to keep us informed
but those who need to know, mainstream USA, don't know enough.

In a poll 30% still "don't know" about Occupy protesters.

acting independently or are they following orders? And who controls the "top" person? I think this is seriously bad.
