Grocery Worker Admits To Putting Semen In Yogurt Sample

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The man accused of putting his semen into a yogurt sample at a Sunflower Market pleaded guilty in federal court on Thursday morning.

Anthony Garcia was charged with tampering with food and giving false statements to federal agents. He faces three years in prison and three years of supervised probation. A sentencing date hasn't been set.

According to the U.S. attorney, Garcia admitted to putting semen into yogurt and then offering it to a customer on Jan. 25, 2011. The customer tasted the sample, spat it out and asked to speak to the manager. Garcia threw the yogurt sample into the store's trash compactor after the customer spoke with the manager. ...........(more)

3. Makes you never want to trust anybody again. That is so extremely foul--let's hope he didn't
have any serious infectious diseases.

4. There are rare times when I think that Amish "shunning" thing makes sense.
This is one of 'em.

What a sick asshole.

5. I do not take food samples in stores under any circumstances.
If I want lunch, I buy lunch or wait until I get home and make it. I feel sorry for the people handing out samples, though. Crappy job.

12. Totally understandable
I have occasionally taken some samples if they looked tasty. To be fair, much of the stuff is unpackaged and prepared in full public view, which lends confidence. Still, incidents such as this remind me why I usually pass when samples are offered.

6. What kind...
...of a sick fuck would do something like that? Did he get some kind of a sick sexual kick out of it? Nutty.

8. I'm surprised the customer was so quick to react
You'd think that, given a big enough portion of yogurt, you might not really notice it -- or be mad enough to talk to the manager.

9. Another reason I always check packaging
to be sure it hasn't been tampered with.

Decades ago I had a friend who worked as a stockboy before there was tamper-proof packaging. He said it was common for the staff to sneak a pickle (among other things) out of a jar after hours if they wanted a snack.

This guy should be registered as a sex offender too.

10. Sick as I think this is, I doubt it's a totally unusual occurrence.
I think how poorly a lot of food workers are treated, by both management & customers. My step father used to say, "Always be kind to the wait staff. They have your food outside your line of sight."

14. I think it's highly unusual, and not a common occurrence at all.
Most of the sample people in stores are just working to make a few bucks. They're not malicious, I'm sure. I don't take food samples on other grounds, not fear of contamination.

16. I'm not so sure. We live in a Beevis & Butthead culture.
What was once deemed sick, is now entertaining.

To address your main concern, contamination, have you ever watched Restaurant Impossible or Bar Rescue? OMG, some of the kitchens are beyond disgusting! Back when I was young & single I dated a guy who delivered alcohol to restaurants & he had a long list of establishments he would not set foot in based on seeing their kitchens.

18. Indeed. I'm very selective with restaurants. I especially
like restaurants where I can see the kitchen. Not only do I enjoy watching people prepare food, but those visible kitchens generally seem pretty clean.

Perhaps that's why sushi is one of my favorites. The sushi chef is standing right in front of me, preparing the food.

15. I don't think this guy was out for any sort of revenge or a "stick it to the man" sense
of satisfaction. I think he was a perv who got his jollies seeing an unsuspecting stranger eat his semen.

How can it be?
But whether is it this or not washing ones hands after going to the bathroom (which is also very potentially hazardous) or other mistakes made on purpose, I dont see how it couldn't be happening many times an hour, every day, all over the country.
