A picture from my hometown in Vermont where the teachers are on strike
This picture by the local newspaper in Bennington Vt really annoyed me. I'm not sure if it was the fact that the kid in the picture has no idea what the strike is really about, or if it was the manipulation by his parents to make their point, or if it was the comments by people speaking out against the teachers who are striking after the school board imposed a contract on them (It seems that a large majority of the negative comments are riddled with spelling errors, grammatical mistakes (and I'm not talking obscure ones, I'm talking about simple stuff like there, their and they're), and, in some cases, completely missing words. Pretty clear to me that education hasn't meant much to them their whole lives...)- perhaps it was all the above.

4. I agree...
I've always thought of the Bennington Banner as a pretty respectable paper as far as media goes. They don't usually tilt to far to either side and generally when they do tilt, the readers will have quite a bit to say in the letters to the editors. But this picture really irked me.

I guess the long and the short of it is that, as a former teacher who got fed up with the abuse teachers take, I get so angry when I see teachers being vilified...and by a news source.

5. Heh...
And now my comment pointing out the hypocrisy of the argument has been removed. Unbelievable.
