Waiting for Rep. Barbara Lee's statement decrying Police Brutality in her District, re OWS Oakland
Edited on Wed Oct-26-11 04:49 PM by FrenchieCat
as well as Governor Brown's!

In fact, I can't find a statement from my Representative's, my Senators, or my Governor's website on this, and if I missed them, please link them to me! Thank you.

I know folks wants the President to make a statement on this, and I hope he does make a statement, and in the meantime, I'm waiting for those who have local and state jurisdiction on this as well, and that includes my Rep, my Senators, and my Governor!

I have written to each of them.....and I have asked for a statement!

(I have written to the President, and to the Mayor and the Interim police chief).....

as it won't help get the police off the OWS's asses!

A vet is lying in a hospital.....
due to police action, while he was exercising his
constitutional rights. It would seem that there should be
statements decrying this violence......

Every second he wastes is more ammunition for people who say he fights for the 1%. His voice is powerful and would make a huge difference.

and yes, I'm waiting for a statement from her, expecially because she's understands
police brutality better than most.

The fact that an Iraq War Vet is laying in the hospital is reason enough.....
as she is heavily involved in veteran issues...and this certainly is one!

8. The Oakland Police Department
and the City of Oakland made a grave error.

Their tactics aren't going to win them any favors, and they are going to be branded as fans of police brutality (since apparently, they are). Normal human beings don't think that's an honorable thing. Fascist thugs even pause when they realize they could be next.

OWS is fast becoming a threat to TPTB and they are responding in predictably ham-handed ways.

The Teabaggers were above all a group that supported the status quo as far as TPTB go because it was created and controlled right from the beginning.

OWS is exactly the opposite, a genuine grass roots movement that's decentralized, probably impossible to really co-opt.

ETA: Oh, and only Nixon could go to China, forgot that one.

26. I'm not sure that "conspiracy" is the word..
Closer to "gravity" really, as in the elite are acting in easily predictable ways, just as you can predict the orbit of a planet with a high degree of precision even though you can't know both the position and velocity of any particular particle in it.

It just needs to be done, period.

I'm not making these statements because I want to move goalposts and point fingers,
cause I'm not interested in that. I'm interested in my officials letting me know that
they are aware of what is going on, and that they do not support the police action that
is taking place.

If statements are made tomorrow, because folks wanted to get all of the facts,
for their own sake, I'm fine with that.....
the point is that they must acknowledge this Vet laying in the hospital and how he got there....period.
and the Police action must be tampered down!

Laughed her socks off at my request that someone tell Obama about the public option being sorely needed.

This government is a government of the One Percent. That is why so many people are part of Occupy Everywhere. The bullets will keep coming - whether they will remain only rubber bullets or worse, is anyone's bet. But I am not betting much on the idea that this is the last of the violence we will see.

Look at who Obama works for - the MIC, and the biggest of the WS interests. He works for Bernanke and Geithner - he may not admit it, but every single one of his actions so far has certainly made that clear.

And currently, another "D" mayor, Rahm Emanuel of Chicago is letting it be known that the mayor of Chicago can only meet with "valid people" - which means in his mind, and heart (if he has one) that he cannot meet with the unwashed rowdies currently Occupying Chicago.

Funny thing about Rahm though, during the summer of 2009, he could take the time to meet with just about every single Executive from Big Pharma and Big Insurance industry. That was when Rahm and those industry people were writing up the scam that came about - "The Affordable Heath Care Act of 2009." This goes to show that for those in the Political Class, it's all about Corporate Personhood. Those corporation people are the only valid people! It certainly is not about the 99% of us.

45. Our politicians, local and national, need to get on record about this movement
An Iraqi war vet was just critically injured by the police in a civil protest. THAT deserves some kind of acknowledgement imho indicating that they understand the rage out there and also acknowledge the seriousness of this episode.

And I hate to say it but since I'm the riderinthestorm I'll jump into the fray, publicity from national figures for this movement is probably critical at this stage to take it to the next level, which it needs.

I hope to see that our leaders demonstrate their understanding of our right to protest as well, and empathize with the plight of the guy who was injured. A special bonanza would be national leaders actually condemning the police overstepping their bounds but I believe that may never happen.

55. Unbelievably obtuse statement from the Mayor of Oakland on her facebook
https://www.facebook.com/MayorJeanQuan

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan
October 25, 2011
7:30 am

Statement from Mayor Jean Quan about
today’s enforcement action

Many Oaklanders support the goals of the national Occupy Wall Street movement. We maintained daily communication with the protest0rs in Oakland.

However, over the last week it was apparent that neither the demonstrators nor the City could maintain safe or sanitary conditions, or control the ongoing vandalism. Frank Ogawa Plaza will continue to be open as a free speech area from 6 am to 10 pm.

We want to thank the police, fire, public works and other employees who worked over the last week to peacefully close the encampment. We also thank the majority of the protestors who peacefully complied with city officials.

I commend Chief Jordan for a generally peaceful resolution to a situation that deteriorated and concerned our community. His leadership was critical in the successful execution of this operation. City Administrator Deanna Santana developed the plan and secured mutual aid from other departments and the State of California. She will direct departmental teams, including safety, public works, communications, to restore conditions at the Plaza so that it is available for public use.

The City welcomes all Oaklanders to continue to use the Plaza during daylight hours for peaceful protest.
