Don't antitrust laws apply to our current situation?
I don't know jack about the law, but I know that this same thing was happening a hundred years ago, and the government broke up the monopolies and put laws on the books to keep it from happening again.

Why don't those laws apply anymore?

5. It was Morning in America for giant multinational corporations.
They were to be freed from all those burdensome regulations, like anti-trust laws.

7. Yup getting government off our backs he crowed
You know there is still a lot of people who think he belongs on Mt Rushmore. Personally I think his picture belongs on the back side in the bottom of the commode, easily visible to all who use them. One of two men I'd actually piss on their grave if given a chance.

We lost a lot of what made America, America during the 12 years of reagan and bush1, hell for that matter even more under bush the lessor and the dick.

4. Gotta overcome the idea that we need bigger corporations
To compete in global economy. It's no longer how large you are in the country but how large you are in the world.

6. Antitrust laws have been completely ignored

for the last thirty years, save a few isolated instances (i.e., Microsoft) during the Clinton years. They are as dead as Dillinger, though still on the books.

8. The Anti Trust laws and Glass Steagal kept this nation safe for many

Decades. (In the case of Anti Trust provisions, it was over a hindered and fifty years of protection.)

Then Reagan's people got rid of Anti Trust, for the most part. Then Bill Clinton signed off on the Banking Reform Act, which allowed banks to become full fledged financial firms, able to play with our money and gamble it away on their exotic "Financial Instruments" like CDO's and what not. Glass Steagal died in the same time period.
