& Irony Of Ironies... Talk About Projection... 'Police Union Threatens to Sue ‘Violent’ Protesters'
Police Union Threatens to Sue ‘Violent’ Protesters
By: Joe Coscarelli - NYMagazine

<snip>

The president of the Sergeant's Benevolent Association of the New York City Police Department said today, "In light of the growing violence attendant to the ‘Occupy’ movements across the country, particularly as evidenced by the recent events in Oakland, I am compelled to place these so-called 'occupiers' on notice that physical assaults on police officers will not be tolerated," the Observer reports. A spokesperson said the officers have been "walking on eggshells" with protesters, but the SBA president, fearing that demonstrators "will be emboldened by the recent rash of violent acts against police officers in other cities" is now promising to seek "the harshest possible civil sanctions — including monetary damages — against any individual protester who causes injury to my members."

The group cites over twenty police officers injured so far in Occupy Wall Street–related incidents, but does not offer specifics.
Then there's this: "New York’s police officers are working around the clock as the already overburdened economy in New York is being drained by 'occupiers' who intentionally and maliciously instigate needless and violent confrontations with the police."

2. And who is going to stand with the pigs when their
union contract is being shredded?

The citizens, and their own unions, who they are brutalizing? The politicians who are attacking their income?

Try to sue people who are protesting income inequality, thereby spending even more city money on trials.

:sarcasm:

Do any of these people THINK before they open their mouths and PROVE they have no idea what they are talking about?

4. So. . .how many police officers in Oakland are heading for brain surgery?

How many have been injured?

I don't think they should start a stone fight when they live in a glass house!

12. Every negative action they take like this, only makes things worse.
Protesters can sue also. Besides, they get hugely compensated when they are injured at work. So, good luck to them.

Also, any protester who is violent, does not belong to this movement. So, we might find out who the infiltrators are if they do sue.

A SLAPP in the faces of 99% should do wonders for the cultural revolution that is just getting started in earnest now.

14. Okay, a question just occurred to me
Isn't it ALREADY illegal to attack a police officer? Don't you go to jail for that? How are you going to pay off a lawsuit if you are in jail? And aren't you guaranteed an attorney?

I understand what this is about - it's just an intimidation tactic, and goes after people civilly in addition to criminally - but this literally makes NO sense to me. I would expect that if someone did actually injure a cop due to assault, they wouldn't be seeing the outside of a jail cell for a long time.

Again, the logic here - besides the fact that filing lawsuits against protestors is just going to waste more money needlessly - is completely absent. It sounds like some guy popping off and trying to be important and intimidating without realizing just how absolutely dumb he sounds. I'll be honest with you, I'd have most likely laughed in his face over this "plan". He clearly didn't think about this at all.

15. He clearly isn't thinking about how much money it will cost the state to try
the civil cases. More money out of their state budget for judges, jurors, court reporters, bailiffs, etc.

He didn't think this through at all. He sounds silly - "I'm going to waste more taxpayer money because we are spending taxpayer money." What?

17. This is a Reponse to Mounting Psychological Pressure
Mullins would be laughed out of town if he said that cops' feelings are getting hurt by all this negative publicity they're getting, but that's his apparent motivation here. This shows that the cops are starting to feel the strain of being the only bulwark the predators have against the rest of us. Rich people should be mounting a public relations offensive, but they can't even do that anymore.

So much greed, it's indefensible.

19. an interesting contrast ... in regards to something I heard when the mayor of Atlanta
was being interviewed on NPR ...

not too long ago, a person (RW, of course) was outside a Dem's "town hall" meeting, armed. Said he was exercising his "second amendment rights" ... barely a murmur ... no reaction from the cops ...

the mayor in the NPR report was saying that some "occupy X" protester was seen with "an AK47" ... (isn't Georgia one of those states where they really really really get into carrying?) ... the cops rush in with tear gas + ... "for the safety of the protesters" ...

some contrast, eh? Actually pretty stupid ... if it was "one of us", and he wanted to start firing, wouldn't you think you wouldn't want the person firing the weapon to have his eyesight impaired, and disoriented?

"we didn't fire rubber bullets", "we didn't use flash grenades", "the protesters were throwing rocks", "the suspect resisted arrest".

Bolony. Or should I say Bologna.
