4. Maybe she's going to announce the police chief or her proxy was fired?
Otherwise...sweet Lordy, I cannot imagine why she would do such an idiotic thing. "I bought you all a six inch SubWay sandwich!" ain't going to take Scott Olsen off the protestor's minds.

9. Why would she fire him when she "commended" him for "the successful execution" of the "operation" ?

11. Oh I agree...I was almost being facetious...I think she's a shit but I also think that....
...she shouldn't be the only one to resign/be fired over this. I want that police chief out.

6. That might actually be a bad idea.
She'll be at risk of losing face, and I wouldn't agree to such a stunt unless the police chief and city administrator are fired as a pre-condition to any bilateral talks.

Mayor Quan to Speak at Occupy Oakland
By SHOSHANA WALTER | BayCitizen
October 27, 2011 5:04 p.m. |In OCCUPY MOVEMENT

<snip>

Mayor Jean Quan plans to speak at Occupy Oakland’s General Assembly Thursday night at 7p , The Bay Citizen has learned.

She will wait her turn in line like everyone else, sources say.

Occupy Oakland also invited interim police Chief Howard Jordan to the meeting, Josh, a “facilitator” for the group, said. But Occupy Oakland said Jordan would not be allowed to wear his uniform.

When asked if he planned to go with the mayor to the General Assembly, Jordan said, “I don’t think I’ll be welcome.”

15. I'm in no way defending her, but if she was "invited" to speak
& she had turned them down that would have been a really, really bad idea. I think she should resign, but I have to give her credit for having the guts to face this group.

17. just got a text from someone there: "very impressed. very
well organized. Breaking into discussion groups, voting, proposals, etc."

She was there last night and left just before the violence, thankfully.
