Victoria BC City Council supports Occupy Victoria protesters

Victoria councillors passed a motion to support the People's Assembly of Victoria protesters who are occupying Centennial Square.

Coun. Philippe Lucas asked council to support the assembly "in principle and practice," saying that means providing them with water, power and washroom facilities. Instead, councillors supported a motion without the words "in principle and practice."

Victoria Mayor Dean Fortin said that will ensure council is balancing the protesters' demands with the interests of others who want to use the square.

"I have no interest to set a deadline, to draw a line in the sand and say 'This is when conflict is coming,' " Fortin said.

------------

How refreshing - an enlightened City Council.
