Anybody watching 20/20 and Barbara Walters interviewing
the nice rich people who made it on their own? What do you think the purpose of the show is and do you think Walters is clueless and doesn't understand the real gripes and real reality of the 99%? She is saying the protests are against the rich.

3. Nobody makes it on their own. And Barbara is good friends with Roger Ailes, so she's biased.

6. Stop watching that filth. There's a neat old Boris Karloff movie on TCM.
Watch that instead.

7. I have no choice. My wife is watching it while I'm in a
mountain cabin with cold dreary weather outside. Will head back home to the city on Sunday.

8. Rich people who made it on their own and are not corrupt are not the main problem...

as long as they don't have a problem paying their share of taxes I wouldn't have a problem with them. I'm not watching, but Walters sounds like she is clueless, some journalist!

at such a show at such a time.

10. I am not watching (no TV) and so I can't
comment directly, but I'm curious as to the point. Is it that those who made it on their own shouldn't have to pay those nasty taxes?

Did these people do it without the benefit of public education? Of a police force in their community? How about a fire department? Did they never drive on public roads?

Just curious.

19. And for many, many years her best friend was Roy Cohn -
an absolutely despicable human form. That is all you need to know about her.

Well actually its not - she is a deeply closeted lesbian.

13. Watched the News Hour on PBS
interview some law professor from NYU on how inequality is actually good because it creates "incentive." People will not work as hard, create as much, and grow the economy as much, if they can't dream of being fabulously wealthy. And we all benefit from all the wealth they create.

:eyes:

They billed the interview as one in a series giving many sides to the issue.

17. Yes, he seemed to miss the main point,
Edited on Fri Oct-28-11 10:16 PM by woo me with science
that MANY are working, but most are not experiencing any reward.

He was trying to argue that all are better off, which is demonstrably not the case (Another good chart on that was posted today, but can't find it now...)

16. What a bad journalist she is, and always was from what I've seen
of her.

The movement is not about 'hating the rich', not even close.

It's about the Money in Government which has corrupted the system, which has led to laws being passed making the Meltdown on Wall Street possible and of course the Corporate media of which she is a part, among other things.

She reveals herself, not just as a bad journalist, but as a defender of a corrupt system which a majority of the American people now agree must change. But if it did, she would not have this job. Because fixing the first problem means fixing our media where phony, rightwing 'journalists' like her will not be tolerated. They ARE getting nervous. She has enabled this corrupt system and is therefore part of the problem.

Rich people are not the problem, CRIME is the problem.

20. Yeah, that Paul MItchell dude is such a douche-tool.
Who cares what the purpose is? A story about uber-rich folks doing really good shit? Good to know that if I hit the big, big, big Powerball jackpot and did good things with my money folks at DU would still question my motives if a "news" show talked to me.

21. John Paul DeJoria seems like a douche-tool because ...
... of his view that he would pay higher taxes if it really did some good, but not if it just went into the bureaucracy of the government.

Message take-away I got from that: cut taxes then the happy shiny billionaires can save us.

:puke:

25. Funding of endless wars isn't OK with me, but that's quite irrelevent.
DeJoria seemed to be making the tired RW argument, albeit in a backhanded way, that government spending takes away from the private sector, thus government spending serves no purpose and has no economic value.

23. Babs did a really lame billionaire ass suck piece tonight
First 45-50 minutes were pretty good at making a case that some billionaires come from nothing and go on to do good.

Last 10 minutes of the über-rich getting richer and spending more completely undid the first part.

I would like to see her try to profile just 4 more billionaires each month. November 2011 through October 2012. That's 12 months. Just find 48 more of the 1,200 plus billionaires in the world to present as a rags to riches story doing good. Go ahead. I dare ya to try, Babs.
