Chase, other banks backing away from debit card fees
October 28, 2011|Eileen Ambrose
Update: Reuters is reporting that even Bank of America is scaling back on its $5 debit card fee by giving customers more ways to avoid the charge.

Bank of America, which caused an uproar last month when it announced it would introduce a $5 monthly debit card fee, might be feeling a little lonely.

1. I'm about to move all my accounts from BofA to the local S and L.
Or credit union, not sure.

And while I'm not a millionaire, I think it'll sting.

:hi:

3. Credit unions can be pretty good
but not in every place I've been. The ones I used in Western Washington were marvelous, but the ones they have in this part of NY (and NJ, where I work) are not ready for prime time. I've been in and out of two of them, and I finally set up an account at a local community bank that is very close to where I work. They even have free checking for folks 55 and over, so I've got that taken care of!
