9. I don't mean to be the spoiler here but...
technically, to be grammatically correct, the "you", in both instances, should be "your".

By convention, of course, virtually no one ever uses "your" in this type of phrase, so I'm all for the way it's written.

Moreover, in this case it's the sentiment expressed rather than the way it's written that really counts anyway. :)

Anybody? I bet she doesn't know her sign is making waves and ripples across the country.

2. Playing Catch Up Here
I love that sign. Brings me to ask people who have been following this more closely than I have-is the first concrete demand of Occupy to get private money out of political campaigns? Because that would be a big step in right direction. Probably require a constitutional amendment to nail it down airtight, though, else the weasels will alter it before the ink is dry.

I don't blame individual actors who grow up in this system and do what they are told - to a point. As an adult wouldn't you notice all those around you who have so little? Wouldn't you become aware of the slave labor, both here and overseas? Even if you are comfortable, wouldn't you put yourself in other folks' shoes and want to change things to make them at least a little more equitable?

We have enough resources on this earth to feed and clothe all - they are just concentrated in the hands of the few. This is why the system has to change, and why this sign is a cop-out.

14. With the human population at 7 billion
there simply has got to be a greater degree of socialism, or social justice if you will. But I certainly do not see the sign as a cop out.

15. The sign is a cop-out - it is a status quo apologist statement. It is supporting the
system - saying "it's ok" if you're rich (therefore saying Capitalism is ok). It very much is not - it is a system that is by definition exclusionary and inequitable.

I've read enough of your responses to know you are an agent for the status quo. How can you possibly back up such a system?

22. More of the same - if you are simply blaming current conditions on "greed" -
then why support an economic system that rewards greed?

16. Yesterday you responded to me that Capitalism was "a wonderful system" -
and before you repeat that nonsense here I will again give you my response -

That is the myth we are taught in schools here. Has it really been that wonderful? We had a good 20-30 years after WWII when Eisenhower raised taxes substantially. Other than that period, has it really been so great? Has it been great for women, who earn about 60 cents to every man's dollar? Has it been wonderful for minorities? Here is a great blog about how there are more black men in prison now than were enslaved in 1850: http://www.theroot.com/buzz/more-black-men-prison-ensla... . Has it been great for 90% of the students who have little chance of graduating from college without massive debt? Has it been great for the homeless? Has it been great for those going bankrupt due to their medical expenses? Has it been wonderful for the 90% who have household incomes of no more than 40K while the 1% control over 40% of the wealth in this country?

You're going to have to define "wonderful" for me because I'm just not seeing it, other than for the very top 1-5% or so.

18. There has been increasing abuse especially
over the last several decades, no question. But I believe capitalism is salvageable if we can remove the influence of money in our elections and legislative process.

I'm certainly no agent of the status quo. I fully support a single payer health care system, reining in the military industrial complex and the prison industrial complex.

20. How do you support capitalism and reign in the military industrial complex?
There's too much wealth concentrated in the hands of too few. They buy their way around regulations. It won't work.

31. "It won't work."
It would work. Publicly financed elections would do it. Then we could do the people's will.

If you don't think my ideas will work, what is your solution?

23. Another Sign
It's OK to work hard and get rich, it's NOT OK to get rich by making other people poor!!!

There is way too much of the latter going on now.

As the the discussion about socialism & capitalism above, all societies on the planet are mixtures of socialism (public schools, libraries, fire depts, sidewalks, etc.) and capitalism - including Cuba, where I have guided student trips. For the foreseeable future, the question is, "What is the proper balance between capitalism and socialism in our society?"

28. Right on! Her slogan is the perfect antidote to the b.s. divide and conquer meme.
I'm not jealous of anyone and as far as I am concerned, if they can make lots of money, so what? I just want our government to be of, by, and for the people.

She said it so well and I'm stoked to have helped connect her, whoever she is, with you and DU. Somebody posted her pic on FB and I knew right where to take it to share the word.

Imua!
