National Close Your Account Day: November 5
I've already opened a Credit Union account and am getting set to close my Bank of America account. Who else is doing this?

2. I have my account in Union Bank N.A.
I'm happy with it. I took my money out of Citibank about a year ago and moved it to Union Bank.

4. Move to a credit union
"A credit union is a cooperative financial institution that is
owned and controlled by its members and operated for the
purpose of promoting thrift, providing credit at competitive
rates, and providing other financial services to its members"

and they mean it...

7. Opened my CU account this morning.
Will close my safety deposit box and savings account next Saturday -- Guy Fawkes Day -- and move most of the funds in the checking. but because there is a state-allowed nine-day hold on funds, I will have to pay some bills online after the 5th and before the 14th (when my CU funds are available). So then the Chase checking account gets closed after the 14th.

Fuck You, Jamie Dimon.

10. A bit of advice
Lets say you are going to remove your account from BoA to a Credit Union. Have the CREDIT UNION make the transfer for you!! They will be most happy to do it, and the bank won't be the wiser, because you never show up in the bank again.

If I tell management why I am a dissatisfied customer, the last thing on my mind is getting arrested.

22. Its actually already happened in NYC..
Edited on Tue Nov-01-11 05:21 AM by AsahinaKimi
Several people went into BoA and tried to withdraw their accounts. The tellers called the cops. They were dragged out and arrested. This is now, apparently what the big banks can do..

24. I thought that it was because they were carrying signs and actively protesting?
Thought I heard/read that if they'd come in and not made waves about it then it'd not have been a big deal.

If people were to be arrested for simply closing their accounts than we really do have ourselves a big problem.

28. The video clearly showed people
(without signs) trying to withdraw their accounts, were pulled out by Police and arrested. It was all over DU for a few days..

25. And if you go there in person
and complain to the teller, or even the bank manager, your complaint is pretty much useless except as a way to vent, unless you've been mistreated on that level.

If your complaint involves bank policy, complaining to the tellers or manager isn't going to change things.

Noticed that yesterday when I logged on to check my balance. It said they welcome anyone wanting to close their big bank accounts and join.

26. Can you open a CU account even if you have a bad credit?
My credit isn't really bad, but CapitalOne turned my CC acct. over to collection agency in October (last month) even if my last payment to them was on Sept. 22. They didn't like my minimum payment of 150.00 instead of 188.00 due to my limited, shrinking fund. Crazy!

Anyway, I checked for a CU in my village, found it online, but they don't offer checking account (not on the list). Just for savings, loans, etc. ???

27. I'm not. I have been a Bank of America customer for over 15 years
and I am not leaving. I have always had excellent customer service. They have waived overdrawn fees, replaced money that was taken out of my account from a lost ATM card and notified me if there is any suspicious activity in my account. Besides, Bank of America is just around the corner from my house, and there is another one about a mile down the road. The nearest credit union is about 12 miles from my house through heavy traffic. No thank you, I will opt for convenience.
