Down here in Georgia, the good old boys are in their 20-40's, they are just as racist, but they have learned to keep their mouths shut (mostly) around folks they don't know. Sit around with them and it cones out pretty quickly.

5. It's no different in the northeast

or any other part of the country, for that matter. Wherever you go, the conversation always starts off innocuously enough, but it doesn't take long for phrases like, 'I'm not prejudiced, but...(insert racist commentary)' to come tumbling out of their mouths. It shoots down the oft-repeated notion that 'racism is sooo yesterday' - oft-repeated by the same good ol' boys who have learned to keep a lid on their innate racism until they feel comfortable revealing it to you.

6. But it is accepted less and less now.

As noted below, they have to hide their true feelings around people they aren't sure of, it's not 'in your face' racism anymore, it's 'States Rights!' and anti-immigrant ranting, they won't come right out and scream "N-word!" anymore.

Thank Dog that more and more people see that type of person as ignorant and to be pitied.
