On Friday at 12:30 a.m. Democratic City of Rochester Mayor Tom Richards ordered the forcible removal (in which he commends the actions of the Rochester Police Department in an official statement) of OccupyRochester by Police Chief James Sheppard and the Rochester Police Department.
This sets a precedence in New York in that Rochester is the first and ONLY Occupy to be forcible removed from their encampment.
As you know, Occupations in New York, Albany, Binghamton, Syracuse, and Buffalo are all holding current, well-attended occupations in their respective cities with the cooperation of their local governments.
Yesterday, myself and 31 others were arraigned in City Court on the charges of City Parks Ordinance 140 Trespassing and 142 Being in a City Park after dark.
We all plead 'not-guilty' to the charges. In an obvious attempt to break the group apart, 9 different court dates were set over the period of the next two months in order to water down the political statement that we are attempting to make.
We will take to City Hall on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 to demand that the charges against the 'Rochester 32' are dropped in full with no civil violation fines.
If you could please take 10 minutes of your day and contact the City of Rochester officials and denounce the forcible removal of peaceful protesters making political redress of their grievances, and that the charges against the 'Rochester 32' be fully dropped.
PLEASE, if you haven't already; or if you have and are willing to call, write, or email yet again, please contact the following offices:
