State senator’s husband arrested on suspicion of lewdness toward her

The husband of state Sen. Elizabeth Halseth has been arrested on suspicion of "open and gross lewdness" -- commonly defined as inappropriate touching -- after his wife alleged that he tried to force himself on her for sex.

Daniel Halseth, 32, was booked into Clark County Detention Center and released following his arrest on Friday. Elizabeth Halseth, a conservative Republican, was elected last November to represent District 9 in Las Vegas. It was her first try for pubilc office.

Metro Police say they were alerted to the case by Elizabeth Halseth's mother, Candy Schworak, who flew to Las Vegas from Oregon the day after she received a troubling phone call from her daughter.

During a phone conversation, Elizabeth had told Schworak that she and Daniel were having marital problems, that he had become controlling and tried to force her to have sex, according to the police report. According to the police report, Daniel also threatened that if Elizabeth didn’t submit to him as her husband as the Bible says he would destroy her.
