In conjunction with TBF's poll, I'd like to see
a General Assembly with ideas on how to transition to socialism in the quickest, most peaceful way possible. ALL socialists of all stripes at this point, need to work out a transitional "game plan", starting with an end result of what the majority would want in practical terms. Then moving on to strategies and tactics for making it happen.

2. You mean like a nationwide socialist meeting?
That either be very useful or very demoralizing.

3. Yep. I'd like to see that, but
I'd also like to see it in conjunction with a national Occupy movement General Assembly, which I'm sure would include some (a lot?) of socialists. I'd just like to see a coalition of socialists work out a transitional plan for discussion by the masses.

4. First people gotta agree that Capitalism gotta go...

Without the understanding that regulation has failed, will always fail, you're stuck on that merry-go-round.

Judging from TBF's poll that's a long row to hoe, but this is DU and hardly representative of the working class.

5. I think that you are right. The country is not ready yet but it is getting
there. One thing that would be accomplished by such a meeting would be the same thing that was accomplished in the depression - we would scare the hell out of them and possibly be able to push them to the left. And by them I am talking about the Democrats and businesses that do not want to go that way.

Also would we not be accused of treason if we were doing this? The powers that be do not like us and they would not be at all against taking us to court just for talking.

6. Well if that's the way they would want to play it
that should garner quite a bit more support. Being arrested for talking about something probably wouldn't go over very well. :)

7. That's true. DU is a left centrist online community
But I'd still like to see it. I wouldn't expect a communist program to be adopted yet. But I could see a few models coming out of this type of meeting one of which WOULD be Marxist.

The biggest thing to me would be that it would get the ball rolling by TALKING about alternatives to capitalism and strategies and tactics to accomplish it. Just like a general strike now embedding itself in the consciousness of the working class and even the petit bourgeoisie (a year ago even talking seriously about it on here wasn't possible-not enough support even for talks), alternatives have to be SERIOUSLY talked about before we can start to move in that direction.
