Americans Would Pick Reagan Over FDR
(a lot of dumb people out there):

A new 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll finds Americans would choose Ronald Reagan over Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 36% to 29%, as the past president they would want in the White House in these trying times. Thomas Jefferson came in third place with 14% from a... Full Article at Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

19. I agree with you, Uncle Joe. There are too many people brain-washed by the
propaganda and lying of the right-wingers in this country of ours.
Who can estimate how much damage these psychopaths have done and
are continuing to do to our country in so many different ways?

America's greatest enemies are not necessarily from abroad. Many
of them are right here, with us.

2. I think RR's popularity will wane with passing generations.
It's been less than 25 years since RR seduced the American electorate. Not enough time has tarnished the result of his policies.

26. So would a lot of Xers whose parents were able to capitalize on development
I grew up in an expanding suburb. A lot of people did very well building and selling real estate during the mid- late 80s. Small construction businesses even did well during that time. Many xers see the president of the time as the responsible for the $ that put them through college. That was the dinner table discussion when their families talked about the first in their families to go to college.
Not everyone is a political junkie. Many developed loyalty to what they heard growing up.

Americans have got to be some of the stupidest voters ever. I know, the campaign to prop up St Ronnie has been in full swing for decades now but still, you'd think most Americans would have figured this out by now.

11. now that is scary...Reagan was a doddering old simpleton who made being dumb and selfish respectable
I suppose the public persona of his Presidency was in effect, "The Ronald Reagan Show." The public or at least large parts of the docile majority were bamboozled by the Hollywood creation and could not distinguish the image from real life any more than Reagan himself could tell the difference between the real world and make believe.

We've now endured at least two morons and both served 2 terms. Ronnie and Dubya.

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.” - H.L. Mencken

I'm guessing most Americans don't even know who FDR is or what he did. They remember Reagan, therefore they pick him. Not rocket science. Pick a well known celebrity over a not so well known genius/saint and the celebrity will win every time. People are stooopid.

31. A 36% PLURALITY would pick Reagan
over FDR at 29% IN THIS ONE POLL. Third place goes to a radical named Thomas Jefferson at 14%. Why does this surprise anyone? That's approximately the SAME percentage that goes for reactionary politicians in every election. The majority would still be ABR (Anybody But Reagan).

32. For the same reason that more Americans will self-identify in polls as conservative than liberal,
but when asked about specific POLICIES always fall on the liberal side.

This is the power of rhetoric over substance.

I'd like to see this poll taken again, but asking Americans to choose between specific POLICIES favored by FDR versus Reagan.

40. I would hope so. But I really think it has more to do with the incessant
legend-building the GOP has done with Reagan, even more than personal memory. He's got shit named after him far more than he deserved, for example. GOPers are downright reverent. This will naturally affect the opinion of ordinary non-political citizens, who pick up by osmosis that this was somehow a great man.
