401(k) supporters spent $1.1M on petition drive
Supporters of the proposed “Comprehensive Pension Reform” initiative spent more than $1.1 million during a nearly six-month-long signature drive to put it before San Diego voters next year, according to disclosure forms filed Monday.

The initiative -- which would eliminate guaranteed pensions for most new city workers and replace them with a 401(k)-style plan -- received financial backing from several pro-business groups, including developers, auto dealers, restaurants and hotels.

Election officials are currently reviewing the 144,907 signatures collected by supporters to determine if enough come from registered voters to place it on the June ballot. The initiative, which would change the city charter, needs 94,346 valid signatures, or 15 percent of the city’s registered voters to qualify.

Oh and kids, this is how you subvert direct democracy... got a cool extra million? You too can get a petition on the ballot.

Oh and officers... this is who you defend.
