Occupy Mobile: Occupy Wall Street movement begins its second occupation of Mobile on Saturday

MOBILE, Alabama -- Occupy Wall Street begins its official occupation in Mobile on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, in Spanish Plaza in downtown Mobile, according to a news release.

About 40 to 50 people of all ages turned out in front of Mobile Government Plaza on Oct. 8 as Occupy Mobile held a rally to protest corporate greed and the monetary system, and has continued to protest every Saturday since.

Occupy Mobile is an offshoot of the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York City and are not affiliated with a political party.

According to the Occupy Mobile release, democratic government derives its power from the people and protesting is one way beyond voting to get active in the democratic process. The slogan of the 99% emphasizes the movement is for any American; and the “people’s needs over corporate greed” statement has even gone global, the release says.

A full declaration of the ideals and goals of the Occupy Wall Street movement can be found at http://www.the99declaration.org/.
