Ex-Penn State Coach Sandusky Arrested on Sex Charges re sexual abuse of eight boys
A former Penn State defensive coordinator was accused Saturday of sexually abusing eight boys in a case that has rocked the Big Ten university.

Jerry Sandusky, 67 years old, was arrested Saturday and released on $100,000 bail after being arraigned on 40 criminal counts, the state attorney general's office said.

In addition, Penn State athletic director Tim Curley, 57, and Gary Schultz, 62, the school's vice president for finance and business, have been charged with perjury and failing to report what they knew about the allegations. Mr. Schultz's position includes oversight of the university's police department. They were expected to turn themselves in Monday in Harrisburg.

2. Empirical evidence suggests otherwise
males in convenient authority positions and protected by others more concerned with the institution's reputation than the young victims -one more scumbag predator-throw away the key

3. Have been following this all day
Looks to me like Joe Pa could have reported more and to other people or at least insisted on a followup.

Also, looks to me that it was strategically held( by press?) (by DAs?) in order to have it "break" on a Penn St. bye weekend.

Sickening on so many levels.

5. This is appalling; why isn't DU all over this one?
This guy is married with six kids. It demonstrates that pedophilia is a sickness unrelated to gender identity, but it is also appalling. Raping 10 year old kids, and sweeping it under the rug?

Where is the outrage?

Surely Paterno is now finished, at 85. But what about those kids?

8. History is America toward children in general isn't good.
At 85, it's likely there are more than 10 victims. Most sex offenders don't go to prison because most of them aren't convicted - not because of lenient judges or courts, but because their victims never are able tell anyone, whether because of fear or shame. Since most of the victims in this case are grown men today, hopefully they've gotten counseling and have a caring support system.

6. Such a despicable story
If the allegations are true I hope they throw the book at him. He had a charity working with at-risk kids and those were the victims.

There was an investigation in 1998 where he apparently admitted (in front of police) to a mother that he had showered with and perhaps touched her young son, but there were no charges were filed. And even though officials at Penn State knew about that investigation, they didn't follow up or report to police when they were given an eye-witness account of the guy raping a kid in the locker room showers. They didn't even, according to the grand jury report, make any effort to find out who the kid was or to protect him or others. I guess protecting each other and the institution were more important to them than protecting the kids. :puke:
