Poll question: Law Enforcement ... a poll
Historically, police have had both ups and downs in their reputation. Some eras have seen them prosecuting the weak and the poor at the whim of the rich and powerful, while in other eras they've been the good and kindly. At present, it's a mixed bag.

We've seen serial killers caught and punished, while we've seen cops beating unarmed folks as well. As someone who was raised during the 60s, I have always learned to question authority, though I've appreciated help from others when I've had a particular problem.

So: how do you view members of law enforcement?

1. It's just like every other occupation, there are good cops that take their
jobs very seriously with total respect for there fellow citizens and there are those that should not be cops.

3. Having been a victim of some "bad apples" myself, I'm of the opinion that

there's more than just a few bad apples in some departments.
Some departments are mostly bad, poorly trained, corrupted law breakers.

It just depends on where you are. There is one jurisdiction that I will never set foot in again because the cops routinely abuse their power. And some big cities I am afraid to go because of the cops, a result of being traumatized by my ordeal.

As for this poll I try to stay away from cops. They've never done anything to help me, only to harass me and in in one case even hurt me.

4. The police are a gang that works for the wealthy and the powerful
Like a more dishonest and less reliable version of the mob that is more attractive to authoritarian types and more accepting of punk ass bullies.

Are there good ones? Certainly, but most are just workaday sorts that look the other way from their crooked brethren and there are substantially less good ones than assholes or worse.

5. Other: when ordered they will shoot us by the thousands.
As demonstrated in Oakland, the 30 years of paramilitary training in preparation for the 'asymmetric low intensity warfare' aka civic unrest that is starting - has paid off. They will shoot at us as we stand in the streets and they will shoot to kill.

6. Other.
Mostly bullies and goons. Not all, but most.

The 99% who are bad cops ruin it for all the rest.

8. In my experience they're mostly good, but the bad apples REALLY stand out.

9. I voted other...
because if a cop is caught being abusive, they all circle wagons around the bad cop. They refuse to police their own ranks, so the circulars are all guilty by association.
