Poll question: How broke are you? What is your checking account balance?
This can be totally anon if you like. :) (And remember, this is checking and not savings or 401K or anything like that.)

3. If it doesn't include other account types
Its not really indicative of how broke someone is.

I kept it to checking because a lot of people have tens of thousands in their retirement accounts, but they're not free to spend it, so "total wealth" would be misleading.

5. Virtually nothing, but I think I just landed a job today.
Just waiting for confirmation and more details. It'll be my first job in 2+ years, and it's actually in my field of expertise. :woohoo:

I feel your pain, I haven't been "officially" employed in my field of expertise since January 1, 2009. Though technically I had a regular job for two months last year doing grunt temp work.

7. Right now, about $100.
No savings account or 401k. Although this is deceptive, as I have more money coming to me, it's just not here yet. Plus I have some cash I need to deposit. So by tomorrow it should be around $400.

I have money in the bank, but it's already spent and then some. It's great when your employer skips paying one month of expenses, then on top of that is late paying back the next one. :grr:

12. I get more interest on my checking than on savings, so all my liquid cash
This skews it way higher than it would normally be. When interest rates were more typical, I'd geneeally keep no more than $1000 or so in it. But looks like the recent Census Bureau median tracks well with a DU population that largely scoffed at it so far.
