1. I think he is, yes. Or perhaps his addictions are not as well controlled. Or something.
Anyway, when you're as far on the extreme side of "incredibly stupid or really drunk or on serious drugs or just bat shit crazy" it doesn't really matter which of them is slightly stupider, drunker, or crazier than the other.

50. He really is stupider. That's the entire reason he's in office, actually.
He was Bush's Lieutenant Governor, and according to the Bush people, he was expressly selected for the purpose of being able to make Bush look smart on stage.

30. My model runs like this:
Michelle Bachmann, Herman Cain, Rick Perry, Sarah Palin, and George W. Bush stand in a circle. Each one is stupider than the one to his/her right.

Now, add Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, and Mitt Romney to that circle and it becomes each one is sleazier than the one to his/her right.

34. I'll give you some insight...
Since I live in Austin.

I have had a few friends work as lobbyists in the Tx Capital over the years and in no uncertain terms they all, both Dems and repukes, state that cement head perry is dumber than a mud fence during a rainstorm.

As one friend succinctly put it, "rick perry is so stupid he makes george w. moron* look down right average".

There is an old warner brothers cartoon with a really stupid cat and a scam artist parrot. The cat does the bidding of the parrot. However, there is one scene where the cat starts turning blue and the parrot has to slap him upside the head and yell, "breath stupid, you forgot to breath!".

cement head perry is that stupid.

and just to go on record, Austin, didn't go for cement head perry.

Edited on Thu Nov-10-11 11:27 AM by Proud Liberal Dem
I was fairly certain after he announced that he would be the conservative right-wing alternative to Romney and/or maybe even get the nomination. I thought that media would promote him like they promoted GWB back in 2000. The amount of media scrutiny he has received so far, not to mention his sagging poll numbers have been the biggest surprises of the 2012 GOP primary campaign so far IMHO.

That's what he gets for ducking all of those gubernatorial debates over the years.

At least the Chimp had enough ambition to try and look competent. (fail though that did)

Perry just figures his hair and wrinkly smile will carry the day.

45. Yes, most assuredly
But see, Rick, himself is used to playing to like-minded crowds. When he is in a crowd that wants him to really be able to answer a simple question, he can't. Because he's not practiced at doing it on a state level.

If he were on his home turf (i.e., evangelicals who believe him when he says he's been called by God) last night, no one would have made a peep over his screw up.

Rick is bewildered as to why it doesn't work the same way on the national level.

As a Texas Democrat, I am loving it that people are seeing him for what he really is!!!

47. Yep. I've said for a long time. He really is that dumb
I knew he would melt under a national spotlight, however, he usually can memorize his talking points a bit better than recently. I think his extra ineptness is a result of the pressure from him being so far out of his league. I said, back when he was still thinking of running but had not yet announced, he was in for a big surprise if he jumped in with the big boys.

He's never, not once in his Republican political career, had to prove his competency. In Texas it's more a case of under the table agreements as to who will get the support of the local Republican party. After that you're a shoo-in for governor, since no Democrat can win in this insane political environment. Texan Republican voters are still defending his not debating here and wondering why he should have to on a national level just to be President. After all, he's already said he's "not good at it." I kid you not.

49. Not enough to matter.
Perry might actually be the most intellectually gifted, but he isn't backed by Bush-level money yet.

I would have said that Perry was the more comfortable with the glad-handing, but his last drunken pratfalls have sure made him look more inept. In the debates with Gore, Dubya at least knew to slow down and proceed with caution. Perry won't be a candidate for long enough to learn that lesson.

54. It's mostly the rural folk doing that.
One DUer here lives in East Texas (Manifestor_of_Light) and speaks of what they are like all the time. I'd guess most of it has to do with bad education (or refusing to be educated due to pigheadedness.) The cities still do better at educating than the rural areas.

53. Did Perry ever talk about putting food on someone's family?
Did he ever talk about gynecologists practicing love with women all across America? Did Perry ever wipe his hands on someone's coat, live on national television? Did he ever say that the problem with the French is that they have no word for "entrepreneur"? Did Perry space out in front of thousands while talking about the beauty of a rainbow in the sky overhead as a sacred sign? Did Perry ever give a head of state a massage? Did he ever refer to "peeance freeance?"

I could go on and on, all morning. I think that Bush is the dumbest piece of shit ever elected to major public office anywhere. It's because we are so wary of electing another Bush now and because Perry superficially reminds us of Bush now that our awareness of his stupidity is amplified a thousand fold.
