Have we had an appreciation thread for Rev. Al Sharpton yet? He's out there trying to slay dragons.

He is courageous and does not mince words or stance. He brings enthusiasm and makes less gutsy people stronger. He is on point and brings his serious messages in humorous wrappings.

I was inspired tonight because his show which I don't often have a chance to watch in full was simply marvelous and compassionate with an ending that will make Speaker Böhner, whose birthday it is today, furious.

Reverend Al had presents for him, virtual presents, had lots of words, and, thank you ever so much, pictures, about his crying jags, one of the crying jags happened today in honor of the birthday.
I call it self serving sentimentality
:puke: :puke:
and it's not even phony.

At the end he unwrapped a real gift from him to Boehner:
A box of Kleenex, with his show's logo on it, and he encouraged him to save it for election day next year.

Paraphrasing:
I will make sure between now and then I will help to educate the American people to give you some reason to shed true tears. Just hold on to it.
====

While I'm writing this I remember that once I was in Washington protesting during the Bush years. I took my grandson there a few times to show him what Democracy looks like.
We were standing and Rev. Al walked past us with a small entourage. I can only tell you the energy that flowed from that man was inspirational and palpable, I can all but feel it now.
I could have touched him easily, he was that close.

Look here, I said to my young grandson, we have just been passed by a man who to me is a true American Hero.

1. He may not be the most slick and polished, but
I really enjoy his show.
I noticed something; most shows get DH all angry and yelling, but Al's show* constantly gives us both the giggles.

*(which we still call "Rev'ed Up!" as per Rachel Maddow)
