Gave My Last $10 Away
Near the end of a Union meeting Tuesday night, they announced a member had lost her husband in a car wreck over the weekend. No life insurance. We passed the hat. I had $10 in my wallet, and it's what I gave.

Tried to use my debit card today. Declined. I checked online. Zero. Actually overdrawn. I had foolishly decide to buy lunch today, so after checking the vehicle for change and finding none, I survived on a stick of gum today until I got home.

Had an insurance refund check in my pocket that I deposited, so the account is above zero. Got home, and there was a second refund check. We've now got gas and food money until payday on the 23rd.

Another Union member is getting a house through Habitat For Humanity. I've always wanted to work on an HFH project, and I now I get a perfect chance. 160 hours of volunteer time can be donated by others. Our Union President pointed out if 20 of us volunteered one day, it's covered. I'm there.

11. My sister called and a baby in her HUD building died of SIDS last Friday
She also called and asked if I would run next store to the bank and put in $15 so her account would not go below zero. She was then going out collecting in her building and maybe more because the parents had no money to bury their baby.

Two weeks ago a toddler visiting someone in the same building was horsing around on a couch with kids from the apartment and tumbled backwards off the top of the couch through a screem and down 6 floors to the grass below. She survived but is still in critical condition.

I rewatched "King of the Hill" and thought that we are back there aren't we? Those monsters played King of the Hill and took all of the money from all of the people and left parents of little kids with impossible choices. And these folks still qualify for HUD housing so many no longer do.

Bravo to all the everyday heroes and a pox on the 1%
