Syracuse U, police investigate assoc. BB coach Bernie Fine over molestation allegations

Two former Syracuse University ball boys say they were molested by associate head basketball coach Bernie Fine, starting in the late 1970s and continuing into the 1990s.

Police in Syracuse said they have opened an investigation into the allegations. And in a statement Thursday night, Syracuse said it has placed Fine on administrative leave.

One alleged victim, Bobby Davis, now 39, told ESPN's "Outside the Lines" that Fine molested him beginning in 1984, shortly before Davis entered the seventh grade. Davis, the team's ball boy for six years beginning in 1984, said the abuse occurred at Fine's home, at the Syracuse basketball facilities, and on road trips, including the 1987 Final Four. .............(more)

2. I am hoping the Sandusky/Penn State/Second Mile horror...
will cause survivors of child abuse/rape to come forward (I think this case is an example of that happening)so the public can see just how widespread the crime is.

Thanks for posting this.

Recommended.

4. Absolutely!
Child abuse/rape is not isolated to sports any more than it is to religious organizations or military ones. It is widespread throughout, crimes committed by individuals not affiliated with any organization as well as those who hide within them.

If we, as a society, are able to foster a belief among the survivors of child abuse/rape that they will be believed AND protected, I believe many, many more survivors would come forward. As it is currently, we, as a society, provide no such foundation in which the survivors can believe, sadly. I am hoping that may change soon but am not holding my breath waiting for it.
