Former PSU football coach Joe Paterno has been diagnosed with a treatable form of lung cancer
Edited on Fri Nov-18-11 04:36 PM by Are_grits_groceries
Penn State head coach Joe Paterno talking to reporters during Big Ten football media day, in Chicago. Today, Paterno, 84, announced he's been diagnosed with a treatable form of lung cancer.

Paterno was diagnosed after being hospitalized last Saturday, during the game against Nebraska.

In a statement given to the Associated Press, the family asked for privacy while the 84-year-old former head coach goes through treatment.

The statement read:
"Last weekend my father was diagnosed with a treatable form of lung cancer during a follow-up visit for a bronchial illness. He is currently undergoing treatment and his doctors are optimistic that he will make a full recovery. As everyone can appreciate, this is a deeply personal matter for my parents, and we simply ask that his privacy be respected as he proceeds with treatment."

Paterno was fired last Wednesday along with president Graham Spanier, following the announcement of child sex abuse charges against Jerry Sandusky and perjury and failure to report charges against two top university officials.

5. my father had lung cancer treatment
before he died (not from lung cancer). he had half of one of his lungs removed and radiation therapy. he was considered "cured", buty was pretty much on oxygen after that until he died though.

7. "Treatable" vs curable.
Sure, it's treatable.

Paterno has no credibility as far as I'm concerned. When he dies, I presume all the civil suits against him also die.

He probably got lung cancer to distract us from his off field problems.

12. The announcement timing is pretty damn interesting.
If you don't think this will be used by Paterno's attorneys against those who will be attempting to sue him civilly, you might want to rethink.

9. Didn't he recently transfer ownership of his home to his wife for the amount of $1.00?
Did he know about the cancer at that time?

10. At his age, it;s probably not that bad of an idea (from am estate-planning position)
since women tend to live longer than men.

11. Agreed.
I think that's fairly common to avoid a lot of headaches.

As for Paterno...I wish him well. No one deserves a diagnosis of cancer.

13. Isn't this the "Thing" the Attorneys do? Find that your client is dying of something?
Elicits sympathy...makes folks think you can't go to jail...because you are "dying anyway from some hard disease to cure" and if you can beat the illness with a year or two of jail...or maybe just live at home with an "ankle cuff" to monitor...then "Justice has BEEN DONE!"

Who knows...maybe he is dying and he is old so that there's much sympathy there.

Maybe look past Paterno to the folks who were doing the terrible things to these young boys? Let Paterno go...because he's old and sick.

I wonder when Cheney, Rumsfeld, Kissinger and many others will become "Too Old and Sick" to prosecute, though. So many thugs and so little time.. and they are "So Old" ...yet they want to take SICK OLD .."Average Americans" health care and retirement funds they paid into for YEARS while they worked hard...AWAY FROM THIM?????

This is JUSTICE IN AMERICA?
